Burn Reports Lead to Harley-Davidson Heated Jacket Liner Recall

Almost 10,000 heated jackets liners, some sold under the Harley-Davidson label, were recalled this week after at least two reports were received indicating that the jacket liners overheated and caused burns to consumer’s backs.

A Harley-Davidson Gerbings heated jacket liner recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on April 17, indicating that a defective wire connector in the lining of the jacket may cause burns for consumers wearing the jackets.

The recall includes 12-volt heated jacket liners made by Gerbings and Harley-Davidson. The jacket liners are black nylon and are able to be plugged into a vehicle to heat up while driving. The liners have “Gerbing’s Heated Clothing” or Harley Davidson printed on the left chest and the model number “PO” and “Use only 12 Volts” are printed on a label next to the jackets front zipper.

I was burned from a harley heated jacket. A dime size blister. That left a scar.Harley replaced the jacket with another one off the rack. said they never had that happen before. I think I got another jacket just like the one that burned me. But I was never told what the cause was. I would like to know what they found that made the jacket cause a burn?
