Pottery Barn Crib Bumper Recall Issued Due to Entanglement Risk

About 12,000 Pottery Barn crib bumpers have been recalled following reports that the decorative stitching may come loose and wrap around a child’s necks, posing an entanglement and strangulation hazard to infants.

A Sweet Lambie Crib Bumper recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on May 29, after at least two reports were received involving problems with the embroidering coming loose from the bumper and becoming wrapped around a child’s neck.

To date, none of the incidents have resulted in serious injury or hospitalization, but the consumer safety group is urging parents to remove the bumpers from their children’s beds.

The recall includes Pottery Barn Kids Sweet Lambie Bumpers with model numbers 708859, 708917, and 7988348 that were manufactured between April 2009 and July 2012 appearing in MM/YYYY format printed on a tag of the bumper with the model number. The bumpers fit standard size cribs and are cotton with a padded layering. The recalled models were sold in pink, blue, and ivory/oatmeal with “lambs in grass” and “lambs with trees” embroidered on the bumpers. “Sweet Lambie Bumper” is printed on a tag located near the bottom of the bumpers.

The recalled bumpers were manufactured in China by Pure Mars and imported by Pottery Barn Kids, a division of Williams-Sonoma Inc., of San Francisco where they were sold at Pottery Bran stores, outlets, and catalogs and also online at potterybarnkids.com from April 2009 through July 2012 for between $129 and $149.

The CPSC recommends that consumers check the tag on the bumper for manufacture dates between 04/2009 and 07/2012 to verify if the bumpers are included in the recall. Those with recalled bumpers should contact Pottery Barn Kids at (855) 323-5138 or visit potterybarnkids.com for instructions on how to return the bumpers for a full refund, store gift card for the product amount, or replacements bumpers.
