TNF Blockers Receive Black Box Warning About Risk of Childhood Cancer
The FDA announced Tuesday that a new “Black Box” warning will be required on Remicade, Enbrel, Humira, Cimzia and Simponi about an increased risk risks of cancer in children. All of the medications fall under the classification of TNF blockers, which are used to treat inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and Crohn’s disease.
Simponi Fungal Infection Warning Issued by FDA
The FDA issued a MedWatch Alert on Thursday to remind doctors about the potential side effects of Simponi, a recently-approved drug for treatment of arthritis, which can increase the risk of serious fungal infections.
