FlorAlign Prebiotic Formula Recall Issued Due to Salmonella Risk

|

A recall has been issued for powder FlorAlign Prebiotic Formula, due to concerns about potential contamination that may cause users to face a risk of salmonella food poisoning.

The prebiotic formula recall was issued last week by the manufacturer, ECO Health, Inc. of California, impacting 90 gram, 180 gram and 270 gram quantities of the powder formula sold under the brand name of FlorAlign Prebiotic.

The manufacturer indicates that the formula has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, which may pose a risk of serious illness, especially for young children, elderly and those with a compromised immune system. However, no illnesses have been reported to date.

The recall impacts 60 units of 90 gram FlorAlign Prebiotic Formula with UPC number FA02-90GM, 40 units of the 180 gram units with UPC number FA02-180GM, and 174 units of the 270 gram units with UPC number FA02-180GM. FlorAlign Probiotic Formula products, which are sold in a gel capsule, are not impacted by the recall.

The Prebiotic Formula is promoted together with the probiotic dietary supplements, indicating that prebiotics encourage the growth of probiotics and may have a beneficial effect on digestion and constipation problems. The potentially contaminated formula was sold throughout the entire nation in stores and online.

Salmonella can cause symptoms that consist of fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, which typically resolve in a few days or weeks for healthy individuals. However, if the bacteria enters the blood stream, it can cause more severe side effects such as infected aneurysms, endocarditis, and arthritis.

The FDA and manufacturer ECO Health Inc are strongly advising consumers to stop using the product immediately. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-661-208-3446 between 7am and 7pm Pacific time Monday through Friday.
