Walmart Ozark Trail Water Bottle Lid Ejections Prompt Recall After Multiple Eye Injuries

Walmart Ozark Trail Water Bottle Lid Ejections Prompt Recall After Multiple Eye Injuries

Approximately 850,000 Ozark Trail water bottles sold at Walmart have been recalled, due to a design defect that may cause the lid to eject forcefully when certain liquids are placed in the bottle, posing serious risks of impact injuries and lacerations.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the Walmart Ozark Trail water bottle recall on July 10, following two reports of permanent vision loss and another injury involving consumers who were struck in the face by lids that were ejected upon opening.

Ozark Trail water bottles are known for their double-wall insulation, wide-mouth design and affordability, making them a popular choice for outdoor use.

However, federal safety officials warn that the lid on certain bottles can eject forcefully when opened, particularly if theyโ€™ve been used to store carbonated drinks, juice, milk or other perishables for extended periods.

The recall affects approximately 850,000 Ozark Trail 64 oz. stainless steel insulated water bottles, which were manufactured in China and sold exclusively at Walmart stores nationwide and online since 2017 for about $15.

The bottles are silver with a black one-piece screw-on lid and measure 4.41 inches by 4.41 inches by 11.5 inches. The Ozark Trail logo is embedded on the side of the bottle, and the model number 83-662 is found on the product packaging, not on the bottle itself.

The CPSC is urging consumers to immediately stop using the recalled bottles and return them to their nearest Walmart for a full refund.

For more information, customers can contact Walmart at 800-925-6278 between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. CT daily, or visit https://corporate.walmart.com/recalls or www.walmart.com/help.

Consumers who are experiencing issues with a recall or believe a company is being non-responsive, can use the CPSCโ€™s recall complaint form to explain the situation.
