Babies R Us Crib Recall: Over 320,000 Jardine Cribs

On Tuesday, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a nationwide crib recall, which impacts approximately 320,000 Jardine Cribs sold at Babies ‘R’ Us, Toys ‘R’ Us, KidsWorld and Geoffrey Stores between January 2002 and May 2008. There have been at least 42 incidents reported where crib slats and spindles broke, posing a risk of entrapment and strangulation to infants.

There have been four confirmed cases of babies becoming entrapped in the gaps created when a slat or spindle broke. However, the number of officially reported incidents associated with defective products usually only account for about 1% to 10% of all actual problems that occur.

Multiple different types of cribs are impacted by the recall, and Toys ‘R’ Us removed them from their stores last month after they first learned of the problems. Most were sold for between $150 and $300, but one model sold for $450.
