GE Coffee Maker Recall Issued By Walmart Due to Fire Risk May 25, 2010 Staff Writers Add Your CommentsReports of fires and burns have led to the recall of nearly 1 million General Electric coffee makers, which were sold exclusively through Wal-Mart. The GE coffee maker recall was announced on May 20 by the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) after Walmart received 83 reports of the coffee makers overheating. According to the reports, the devices smoked, melted and in some cases caught fire. There have been at least three burn injury reports and several property damage reports, including at least one that involved a “significant” kitchen fire. The CPSC has determined that the Walmart coffee makers are prone to overheat, posing a fire and burn risk for consumers. Although there have been no serious injuries or deaths associated with the defective coffee makers, consumers have been advised to immediately stop using the GE coffee makers to return them to a Wal-Mart store for a full refund.Do You Know about…Spinal Cord Stimulator lawsuitsSpinal cord stimulator lawsuits are being investigated for individuals who suffered unnecessary shocks, burns or other problems, often resulting in the need for additional surgery to remove the SCS.Learn MoreSEE IF YOU QUALIFY FOR COMPENSATIONDo You Know About…Spinal Cord Stimulator lawsuitsSpinal cord stimulator lawsuits are being investigated for individuals who suffered unnecessary shocks, burns or other problems, often resulting in the need for additional surgery to remove the SCS.Learn MoreSEE IF YOU QUALIFY FOR COMPENSATIONAbout 900,000 General Electric-brand 12-cup coffee makers are included in the recall. Dana July 16, 2010 I returned the coffee pot and was told by WalMart that I had to have the receipt to get full refund. Only got about $17 instead of the nearly $40 I paid for it. Isn’t this a class action suit???? Opal June 14, 2010 I had a GE coffee maker that burned our house down several years ago. I had a problem getting someone on the phone with GE with a limited time on my job. I was told to call back or the person was not available. This went on for much too long & then I managed to get someone on the phone. I was told that I had waited too long to contact GE about my problem & that I had insurance that should cover it. When I suggested getting an attorney & file a law suit they told me that was fine that they had a group of attorneys on their staff. I don’t buy GE products any more & when a sales person tries to sell me on GE I tell them my story. ALRC June 2, 2010 The recall clearly states that upon return of the defective coffee makers, you will receive a full refund. This not the case at the ROEBUCK BIRMINGHAM, AL STORE. They only refunded me $18.70 and they expect you to have the receipt when they only honor it for three months. Wow! And they want repeat customers.
