Costco “Pirates of the Caribbean” Bed Recall: Entrapment Hazard June 9, 2010 Staff Writers Add Your CommentsAbout 2,000 Costco “Pirates of the Caribbean” beds have been recalled due to a defectively designed storage bin, which regulators say can trap young children. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” bed recall was announced on Tuesday by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) after the agency received a report of a 4-year-old boy whose head became entrapped in the storage bin in the headboard. The boy suffered bruises behind his ears. The Costco bed recall affects about 2,000 “Pirates of the Caribbean” twin trundle beds. The beds are made of brown wood and shaped like a pirate ship with a half wheel at the foot of the bed, a mast, decorative carvings, and three open storage areas and a storage bin built into the headboard.Do You Know about…Spinal Cord Stimulator lawsuitsSpinal cord stimulator lawsuits are being investigated for individuals who suffered unnecessary shocks, burns or other problems, often resulting in the need for additional surgery to remove the SCS.Learn MoreSEE IF YOU QUALIFY FOR COMPENSATIONDo You Know About…Spinal Cord Stimulator lawsuitsSpinal cord stimulator lawsuits are being investigated for individuals who suffered unnecessary shocks, burns or other problems, often resulting in the need for additional surgery to remove the SCS.Learn MoreSEE IF YOU QUALIFY FOR COMPENSATIONThe “Pirates of the Caribbean” trademark is embossed on the inside of the headboard on a metal plate, and the manufacturer’s name and address, manufacture date, model number and “Made in China” are printed on a label on the inside of the mattress frame side rails. The beds were manufactured by Bayside Furnishings, a San Diego, California, company. The beds were sold exclusively at Costco stores nationwide from January 2006 through January 2010. They sold for between $700 and $1,400.The CPSC recommends that consumers immediately stop using the headboard storage bin and contact Bayside Furnishings for a free repair kit that will seal the headboard storage bin shut permanently. The front storage area doesn’t lock so it never felt like a hazard. Debra December 6, 2019 My mom bought the bed at Costco and we loved it. I stored all my sons extra sheets and blankets in the headboard storage. We used the large storage for toys. I can’t figure out how anyone got their head stuck. Maybe a sibling or another child closed the kids head in it. It didn’t lock. It had large holes in back of headboard. I recently sold the bed after many years of fun. It was an amazing bed.
