Wisconsin Food Poisoning Suit Filed Over Salmonella Outbreak at Restaurant

A salmonella food poisoning lawsuit has been filed against a Wisconsin restaurant that has been linked to a salmonella outbreak that sickened nearly 30 people. 

The food poisoning lawsuit was filed last month by Tanja Dzinovic against Baker Street Restaurant & Pub in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Dzinick was hospitalized on June 24, about a week after eating at the restaurant, according to her complaint. At least 28 people are believed to be part of the same salmonella outbreak linked to the restaurant.

State officials say that while enough of the people ate at the pub to convince them it was linked to the salmonella contamination, there were others who fell ill who did not eat there, leading them to question the original source of the outbreak. The source may never be discovered, state officials have said.

The restaurant was reopened after its entire staff tested negative for salmonella.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that attacks the gastrointestinal tract, causing mild to severe food poisoning. For most healthy adults, symptoms of food poisoning from salmonella typically resolve after a few days or weeks. However, young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems have an increased risk of suffering severe food poisoning after ingesting the bacteria. If not properly treated, some cases of salmonella food poisoning can lead to hospitalization, dehydration or death.

Dzinovic’s lawsuit, filed in Kenosha County Circuit Court in Wisconsin, alleges that she suffered severe injury and may suffer gastrointestinal problems due to her illness. She is seeking damages for medical expenses, pain and suffering.
