Winn-Dixie Cheeseburger Skillet Dinner Recall: Metal Fragments

Potential contamination with small metal fragments has led to a recall of Winn-Dixie Cheeseburger Macaroni Skillet Dinners sold in at least five states. 

The Winn-Dixie recall was posted by the FDA on July 10, after the manufacturer disclosed the potential problems on June 27.

Although there have been no reports of injuries associated with metal fragments in Winn-Dixie Cheeseburger Skillet Dinners, they could pose a risk for consumers.

The recall affects Winn-Dixie Cheeseburger Skillet Dinners with a UPC of 2114018080 and a sell-by date of May 14, 2013. The dinners are sold in the 5.8 oz. size and were shipped to stores on or after May 14, 2012. The dinners were sold in stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi.

“We encourage guests in possession of any of the recalled item to immediately discard the product or bring it back to their store,” said Winn-Dixie Senior Director of Corporate Communications, Brian Wright, in the recall announcement. “Guests who have purchased the product may visit their neighborhood Winn-Dixie to request a full refund, no questions asked.”

This is at least the second major Winn-Dixie recall in less than a month. On June 20, Winn-Dixie announced a Leasa alfalfa sprout recall after samples tested positive for salmonella contamination. That was the second Leasa alfalfa sprout recall this year by Winn-Dixie.

Consumers who are returning the dinners need to have a proof of purchase through a receipt or the product packaging label. Consumers with questions can call Winn-Dixie Guest Service Center at (866) 946-6349.
