A U.S. Divers Youth Snorkeling Mask recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on March 7, after at least 17 reports were received of the lens cracking while submerged, including 7 reports indicating the consumer suffered cuts and scratches to the face. The CPSC determined that the masks represent a laceration hazard.The recall consists of about 44,000 Martinique LX Jr. Youth Snorkeling Mask Sets and about 130,000 Santa Cruz Jr. Youth Snorkeling Masks. The mask sets contain fins, a snorkel, a tempered glass face mask with adjustable straps and buckles, and a silicone face skirt. The masks are blue with silver trim and have a U.S. Divers logo above the nose piece and on the tempered glass. “Wave” is printed on the outer edges of the buckles.The recalled Santa Cruz Jr. masks were sold at Academy, Dick’s, The Sports Authority and other retailers nationwide, including online at Amazon.com and other online retailers, from March 2011 through July 2012 for about $10 individually and $30 for a set. The masks have a single-pane of tempered glass and were sold individually or as a set with a snorkel and fins. This model also contains the U.S. Divers logo on the bridge of the mask and inside on the tempered glass.
