Home Depot Recalled Products Were Still Sold to Consumers: CPSC

Government safety officials indicate that Home Depot has continued to sell thousands of recalled products to consumers and third party sellers, even after it was discovered that the products may pose serious safety risks, including fires, burns, shocks, falls, lacerations, and various other injuries. 

A Home Depot product recall warning was issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on November 18, warning that the home improvement store sold at least 28 different recalled products between 2012 and 2015. The CPSC has not indicated how many injuries or problems may have been caused by the continued sale of those 28 recalled products by Home Depot, but indicate that consumers should check the list of impacted products to ensure they are no longer used.

The CPSC’s warning indicates that Home Depot continued to sell the recalled products both in stores, as well as to salvagers and recyclers, who may have in turn sold them to consumers. After verifying if a product is included in the recall warning, customers should stop using them immediately and contact the recalling firm for a refund, repair or replacement.

The products that were recalled by Home Depot, but continued to be sold, include various models and UPC codes of CE Tech Riser Cables, Cordelia Fluorescent Shop Lights, Easy Reach Gorilla Ladders, Fiskars Bypass Lopper Shears, Genie Garage Door Openers, Harris Products Group Welding Torch Handles, HeathCo Motion-Activated Outdoor Lights, Homelite Electric Blower Vacuums, Kiddie Disposable Fire Extinguishers, Kiddie and Combination Smoke and Carbon Dioxide Alarms, Legrand Under-Cabinet Power Strips, LG Electric Ranges, LG Top-Loading Washing Machines, Lithonia Quantum Emergency Light Fixtures, MAT Industries HDX and Powermate Air Compressors, Mohawk Altitude Gold Shag Rugs, Nest Protect Smoke+CO Alarms, Nourison I-CANDI Polyester Shag Rugs, Pramac America Powermate Portable Generators, RSI Glacier Bay Medicine Cabinets, Soleil Portable Heaters, SoleusAir Dehumidifiers, Vornado Space Heaters, Waterloo Vertical Bike Hooks, Westinghouse Glass Shade Holders, and Wing Enterprise Stepladders.

An estimated 2,310 of the above mention units remained in Home Depot stores and an estimated 1,300 were sold to consumers after the CPSC had forced or encouraged the manufacturers to issue voluntary recalls. The CPSC estimates another 1,010 of the recalled units were sold to the third party sellers who may have resold them.

The CPSC is warning consumers, salvagers, and recyclers that the resale of products subject to recalls is illegal even through garage sales. The Commission stated it is undergoing its own investigation to discover why Home Depot continued to sell the recalled products, which is illegal.
