Home Depot Bike Hook Recall Issued for Husky Trackwall Due to Injury Risk

Roughly 120,000 vertically mounted Husky Trackwall bike hooks sold exclusively at Home Depot stores have been recalled, following reports involving nearly two dozen incidents where the hooks detached from the wall, which may result in property damage or injuries for bystanders.

The Husky Securelock Vertical Bike Hooks recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on April 15, following at least 22 consumer complaints indicating the hooks unexpectedly detached from the wall. To date, 12 of those complaints have resulted in property damage to either owner’s bicycles or nearby vehicles.

The recall includes Husky brand name Securelock vertical bike hooks used with the Husky Trackwall garage storage system, which is capable of holding up to 35 pounds. The product consists of a 3 by 3.5 inch black plate that is mounted to the grooves in the Trackwall and the bicycles tire attaches to a protruding hook welded to the plate. The Trackwall plate has the brand name “Husky” printed on the lower left corner.

The recalled bike hooks were manufactured in China under Waterloo Industries Inc., of Waterloo, Iowa and were distributed for sale exclusively at Home Depot stores nationwide from April 2011 to March 2015 for about $9. The CPSC estimates roughly 105,000 Securelock hooks were sold in the U.S. and another 15,000 in Canada.

Customers are encouraged to stop using the recalled bicycle hooks immediately and return them to the nearest Home Depot store for a full refund. Customers with additional questions may contact Waterloo Industries at 800-833-8851 or view the product recall details by visiting www.homedepot.com and clicking of the “Product Recalls”.
