Eco-Cuisine Baking Mix Recall Issued Due to Salmonella Poisoning Risk

|

Various flavored baking mixes sold by Eco-Cuisine have been recalled after ingredients used in the products were found to have been contaminated with salmonella, posing a risk of serious and sometimes fatal infections for consumers.

The FDA announced an baking mix recall on May 20, after CHS Foods, an ingredient supplier, notified Eco-Cuisine that certain additives may have been contaminated with salmonella when supplied to form the mixes. There have been no reports of salmonella food poisoning.

The recall affects the following Eco-Cuisine baking mixes; 1 pound bags of Basic Brownie Mix with product code T3314, 17.5 ounce bags of Betty Brownie Mix with Vanilla with product code T3333, 10 pound boxes of Ground Beef Style Quick Mix with product code T3388, 10 pound boxes of Sausage Style Quick Mix with product code T3394, 1 pound bags of Chocolate Cookie Mix  with product code T3416, 1 pound bags of Lemon Muffin Mix with product code T3417, 1 pound bags of English Scone Mix with product code T3418, 25 pound bags of Central Milling Basic Cookie Mix with product code CM25COOK, Central Milling Basic Muffin Mix with product code CM25MUFF, and Central Milling Basic Scone Mix with product code CM25SCON.

The recalled baking mixes were manufactured by Eco-Cuisine and distributed nationwide through direct sales and food service distribution centers. Consumers may check the product codes located on the packaging to determine whether the product is included in the recall.

Salmonella infections can cause mild to severe health consequences depending upon the individual. Salmonella may cause a healthy person to experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain whereas the young or elderly with weakened immune systems may face more severe consequences, including fatal infections. Occasionally, salmonella infections may travel through the bloodstream and produce illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.

Consumers with recalled Eco-Cuisine baking mixes should stop using the products immediately and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or contact Eco-Cuisine at 303-402-0289 during regular business hours Monday through Friday.
