Garbage Disposal Recall Issued Amid Reports of Debris Shooting Out, Hitting Consumers

A recall as been issued for nearly 150,000 garbage disposals sold under popular brand names like Frigidaire, Kenmore, Moen and others, following reports of problems where metal parts were shot out of the disposal, causing a potential impact and laceration hazard for consumers.

The garbage disposal recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on April 11, 2017, following at least 22 consumer complaints that indicate the disposal projected metal components from the drain while in use, striking three consumers. To date, no injuries have been reported in relation to the recall.

According to the CPSC, consumer complaints have indicated that a metal component may shake loose from within the disposal, causing fragments to come out of the disposal. Several reports have indicated the loosened metal fragments may be thrown out of the disposals with excessive force that could cause serious injury to the face and head.
