More than a quarter million Porter Cable Table saws sold exclusively at Lowe’s home improvement stores are being recalled, following dozens of instances where they overheated and caught fire.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the Porter Cable Table Saw recall on July 24, following at least 61 reports of problems where the motors overheated or caused fires. One consumer reported smoke damage to their home; however, no injuries have been reported in connection with the table saws.

The Porter Cable Table Saw is sold exclusively at Lowe’s stores under the Porter-Cable brand, featuring a 10-inch blade with model number PCX362010. The saw has a gray body with black accents with the Porter Cable logo. The model number and serial number are printed on the table saw’s nameplate, located on the back of the saw body near the bottom.

The 10 inch table saw is manufactured by Chang Type Industrial Company Ltd, of Taichung City, Taiwan. It was sold only at Lowe’s stores nationwide and in Canada. Affected units were sold from June 2016 through September 2018 for $100 to $180.

The recall affects 258,000 units sold in the United States and 1,000 sold in Canada.

The CPSC recommends consumers who own the recalled table saws immediately stop using them and contact Chang Type for a refund. Consumers can contact Chang Type toll-free at 877-206-7151 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or online at www.recallrtr.com/PCSaw to get more information or to receive details regarding a refund.

i just filled it out and sent it . if they say they are not clear pics bs just under 5mb taken with my phone .yep 2017 on the sn# my dad purchaesd it he past in 2019 and ihave to move out of their house my mom past in april this yr i need the money thet better send it but i wont be at the adress ,.. ive used it not alot but never had an issue with it and i had it caked with saw dust at one time too..

same happened to me as most of you. reported it to the third party company handling the recall. told me i would only get 95 dollars after i sent photos of the plate and cut cords. they keep telling me they havent received the cut cord photos even after sending it 2 additonal times and they wont release the money without the photos. they are scamming people because the actual manufacture gave them so much money and anything left over they get to keep

Offereing me a $ 75.oo buy out for a saw that I clearly paid more than $ 150.00 for is an insult. Lowe’s just happens to be the poor middle man, and it seems as thou Porter Cable is the one to blame here. I do not think much of them as a company since they are trying to buy off our safety for half the price of a table saw. This will be the last Porter Cable I will purchase. Telling my friends that are working at a large retail store, I will do my best to steer all prospective customers away from Porter Cable products especially when talking about customer service.

What a joke. Buying us off for $ 75.00 to keep us quiet and to give us a little candy money towards a Dewalt or a Craftsman. Porter Cable should be ashamed of themselves for not putting the safety and welfare of their customers first and foremost. Coming from a family of construction and building, you can bet that this is the last Porter Cable product you will see in our shop and warehouse. Your customer service sucks.

I purchased back in like 2016 and have never had an issue. I truly wonder how many people had issues with overheating, and what they were cutting when such issue occurred. Not bothering to try to get refund, but won’t try to rip any 2″ Oak with a dull blade either.

I just found out about this recall today watching YouTube. I thought this was going to be a good thing. My saw is gently used but the serial number dictates how old it is and mine was purchased in 2016. I was offered $75.00 dollars. I did not complete the registration for the same reason as everyone else on this page. It’s a complete joke and I called the recall number again and told them so. The fact is they could care less. I keep my Porter Cable Saw unplugged and only use it once in a while. This will continue to be my solution until they refund fully or provide a replacement table saw.

I plan to use this saw until it either breaks or I just want to upgrade to a much better saw. The saw has a couple minor issue but can be used safely. I will get the refund once I replace it but not replacing it for the $75 refund and I doubt the person or persons who created this page will do anything as they have never responded to any comments, therefore whatever they offer is all we can get.

I just seen the recall in 2020 went to file for my refund offered me $75 for something I spent 149.99 plus 7% sales tax. How can I replace this with $75 after I lost $85.49 after all said and done. I signed no agreements and will just get my money back after is causes me harm.

Bought porter cable table saw for Lowe’s 7 years ago. Replaced motor shortly after I bought it. Now the height can’t be adjusted. Major job to fix. Saw is terrible .manufacturer and distributors should be ashamed.Saw is a safety hazard and a lemon. Don,t buy

I purchased one of the recalled table saws from Lowes for $149.00 +tax @7.5%. Serial number: 16K 044896 2016 46 CT. I quit using the product and filed for a refund well over 1-1/2 years ago. Still waiting for refund!!

I agree with carl, i did not know about this recall, went searching for a part for the dang thing then discovered it was recalled and I registered my table saw when i got it. They wanted me to upload photos to their recall website and it flat refused to upload any of my photos when i called them today which the number is 1-877-206-7151, the woman was rude as hell, i finally told her to shut up and mail me the damn forms or i would contact my attorney, she finally got my information and said it would be sent to me. For a whopping 95.00 my husband bought this saw for me for christmas 149.99 + tax, i can’t afford to go buy another one for no 95.00, I personally am going to call my Attorney General, and I flat refuse to tear up any piece of equipment that I won’t get even 20 for scrap parts. The only thing wrong with my saw is the dang under blade gaurd broke yesterday. This is rediculous! And unacceptable! Will repost if I get anywhere with anything.

Whatever the cost of the saw that Lowes charged at regular price the highest price plus tax should be refunded to all owners of this saw with or without a reciept PERIOD! Please help the American consumer on this one. Why has Lowes not stepped in on this for their loyal customes – Home Depot is starting to look good to this guy!

So, I’m putting my table saw together…finally tonight. I purchased it 7.25.17 for $149 on sale at Lowe’s plus I bought an additional DeWalt 80t ultra fine blade for $49.99. It’s still in the pkg as well as the blade that came with the table saw. Things happen, and happen and keep happening so it’s been put up patiently waiting for me to learn how to use it. Again, brand new, never used, nice and neat on a shelf in my shop. I cannot buy another one for $95. They quoted $95 before I sent any pictures. I decided not to take a picture, instead I started googling and found you lovely people. This is ridiculous! I’m losing all respect for Lowes. These past couple of years I have not enjoyed shopping there while renovating my house. No one helps or cares.

The reason the amounts are different is because Porter-Cable decided it would be based on the year it was manufactured. (Told to me by “Real Time Results”, the company hired by Porter Cable to process the on-line registration for the pathetic refund) I am in the process of contacting my State Attorney General. I also am being offered the unacceptable $75. eBay is still selling them for $129. WTF???? This whole thing is unbelievable when they are recalling 258,000 in the U.S. and another 1000 in Canada!

What makes me mad is the manufacturer warranty to replace or repair defects is 3 years so all of these saws should be under manufacturer warranty and should be replaced or repaired accordingly.

Have been using Porter Cable tools since 1984 and have never had an issue until now.Purchased this table saw for small projects around the house a little over a year ago.Used maybe 5 times,equalling about 1 hour run time !! Refund $75.00 ? Come on Chang Type Corp,what do these saws cost to make,maybe $25.00 ?? Instead of pissing 1000s of people off and allowing some to take a chance on a safety hazard,do the right thing and offer up a replacement saw even trade –a new one for the old one.Thank you.

Funny how I have only seen one model number being recalled yet the so called refund amount are all different and all the while none are an actual refund I was told $75 for my $200 saw. I think I will do better waiting for it to burn my garage down.

I was offered $125 for mine. I took the pic of my serial # and the cord after I cut it but have yet to receive my check. I actually have more than one due to my line of work. Some models I was offered $95 and a few were $125. But again, I have not seen a dime yet.

I am being offered $75 refund. I believe some were offered $95 but even that has been decreased by $20. Lowes sold this product and they should take responsibility and offer a replacement. I’ve used mine probably 10 times since purchased and the refund amount is unacceptable.

I’m not cutting the power cord for $75. Lowe’s, Porter Cable and Chang Type should step up and offer more equitable settlement. Also, Chang Type sure did a really good job making mailer look like junk mail which is total BS. If it weren’t for my wife hoping I would have thrown away. I’m sure plenty people trashed mailer and never opened. I can’t believe the US CPSC approves such non sense.

Same thing, I’m not going to destroy my saw for this $95 payout. Only used it a handful of times. I paid $159 for this saw. Should be a direct replacement.

$75 is a terrible compensation for a $150+ saw. What about simply returning the saw to Lowes, regardless of how long you’ve had it?

In reference to the rewire, I thought of the same thing, however there is still a catch. If you do take the $75.00 then if there is a class action suit against them and each person is entitled to more than the initial $75 offer then you would not be a part of that class action as you already accepted the $75 settlement.

It sounds like everyone is having problems getting their money back or a full replacement of the saw and the value that you bought it from. I am going to file a complaint with the attorney generals office against Lowe’s and against the company. I hope this gets a faster response from them

I’ve only had the saw for just over a year. Bought it for a small remodel job and haven’t used it since. I barely got dirty! They said my refund would be $95. I paid 149.00 for it, still have the receipt. I love Dave’s comment above. The rewire idea came to my mind also. I waited 30 min to speak with someone and got nothing. It’s not about losing $55! What they are being alllowed to do is WRONG! There needs to be a class action lawsuit filed against Chang and Lowes!!

Anyone have any success on a more reasonable refund in talking with them. I agree $75 is not a fair offer as I do not use the saw much then have to put out another $200 to replace it.

After reading the letter and following instructions on their site to de-mil my saw, I find I get $75, not the cost of a replacement saw. I paid significantly more than $75 for my saw and it will certainly cost more than that to replace it. why am I getting the short end of a deal caused by the manufacturers’ bad product? Depreciated value assumes the saw is worn out but I used it less than two dozen times. Now I get screwed because the manufacturer built a bad product. Sorry that dog won’t hunt.. It’s neither accurate or realistic to depreciate a saw used periodically by a homeowner at the same rate as if ti were being used every day. Mine still has the tags from the factory, all perfectly legible. Porter Cable = Perfectly Crappy customer service.

Agree with the above comments. Replace the saw or pay a reasonable amount toward replacement. The number on the letter is not working (877 206 7175). The number on the website worked but I was asked to hold for 35 minutes (877 206 7151). Sounds like their doing everything they can to slide out of this in a less than honorable manner. The new business model at work.

This saw hadnt been used ten times in 2 years. Did everything but blow up in flames. Had to use a hose to stop it from completely burning up.. customer service at tifton ga. Lowes were just plain rude. I may never go back. At least that store

The offer of $75 to replace the table saw is unacceptable. I paid more than double that for the saw. I plan to destroy the table saw and get rig of all the Porter Cables equipment I own. I’m recommending to all that they get rid of their Porter Canle equipment and not to buy that brand.

Finally got thru on 877-206-7151. They say they’re paying the depreciated value. They did not care we I told them I won’t be buying another one from Lowes. Sounds like their corporate service department that couldn’t fix our refrigerator for three years and wouldn’t replace the lemon, or pay for all the lost food

I can’t afford to replace this table saw at Lowes for $95 (slot less than I paid for it). The tool guys at Lowes said $300 ($289/$299 actually) is their lowest price. The porter-cable look-alikes are stacked their but weren’t offered (they start at $200 on-line. After destroying the old one as instructed AND FOR FREE ON MY OWN TIME, I still have to dispose of it, AGAIN ON MY DIME, and can’t afford to replace it. This not only sucks but blows.

I attempted to call the number on the letter and the 877-206-7151 number doesn’t work. I bought the saw for use in light hobby wood working. I have had no issues with the saw and it is unplugged when not in use. I am not destroying a $180 saw for the promise of a $95 refund. This makes zero sense to me. They know there are problems, then they should do more than that to remedy the problem. I will be using the saw to get my money’s worth out of it, then I will upgrade at some point in the future.

I cut the wires sent the pictures and rewired it. Thanks for the refund. Just use the saw outside and be safe. Remember that sending in the claim removes them from liability.

I too bought this saw at a price of over $200.00 my husband has used it a total of 3 times. The tag is still hanging on it and I am not going to take $75.00 in a refund. However if he uses it and it causes a fire at my home I will be suing your company and Lowe”s.This is not the AMERICAN way of doing things! Totally disgusted with this company and I will be contacting an attorney and the BBB.

The amounts that Chang Type is offering is absurd. The amount will not replace our saws. Seems like they are just trying to get around being responsible for any damage caused by their faulty equipment. These needs to be looked into as a possible class action lawsuit.
