MadeGood Granola Bars Sold at Walmart, Target, Other Stores Recalled Due to Contamination With Pieces of Metal

Seven different reports of metal found in the organic brand of granola bars poses a serious health risk to children and adults.

A recall has been issued for MadeGood organic granola bars sold at Walmart, Target, Sam’s Club and other major retail locations, due to the risk that there may be small pieces of metal in the bars.

Ingesting metal from the recalled granola bars may lead to serious health consequences, including organ damage, neurological issues and reproductive complications.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the MadeGood granola bar recall on December 10, after receiving seven complaints of metal being found in the products, which appear to have entered the bars during the manufacturing process.

MadeGood granola bars are manufactured by Riverside Natural Foods and sold in many popular retail locations throughout the U.S. The current recall impacts the following products:

  • MadeGood Chocolate Chip Granola Bars
  • MadeGood Mixed Berry Granola Bars
  • MadeGood Strawberry Granola Bars
  • MadeGood Cookies & Crème Granola Bars
  • MadeGood Chocolate Banana Granola Bars

Riverside Natural Foods indicates that the pieces of metal in the granola bars will likely appear as small, flat brush bristles. While no injuries have been reported in relation to the recall, officials are warning that the products could still be in consumers’ possession.

The source of the metal contamination has been directly linked to the manufacturing process, which Riverside indicates they have addressed. The company says that a new manufacturing process has been tested to ensure that small metal pieces do not contaminate MadeGood bars in the future.

The recalled granola bars were produced between January 2024 and November 2024, and were distributed throughout the U.S., Canada and other international markets. They were sold at Walmart, Target, Sam’s Club and other retailers. Product UPCs and best by dates included in the recall can be found on the MadeGood USA Voluntary Recall Product List (PDF).

Consumers who have purchased MadeGood granola bars are advised to check them against the list and return the recalled product to the store where they were bought for a full refund.

Consumers with questions can contact the MadeGood Consumer Hotline at 855-215-5695 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EST.
