Oral B Mouthwash Recall Issued Due to Microbial Contamination

Two different types of Oral B mouthwash are being recalled in Canada due to a potential risk of microbial contamination, which could lead to serious injuries for some consumers.

The Oral B mouthwash recall was announced on July 13 by Health Canada, which is monitoring the manufacturer, Procter & Gamble, as it pulls the products from store shelves.

Procter & Gamble claims that the microbial level poses virtually no risk to health people. However, serious adverse health effects could occur in people with a severely weakened immune systems, such as people suffering from cystic fibrosis.

There were no reports of illnesses or infections connected to the recalled Oral B mouthwash, and the nature of the microbial contaminant was not identified.

The recall affects Oral B Anti-Cavity Dental Rinse — Alcohol Free (NPN 02129930) and Oral B Anti-Bacterial With Fluoride — Alcohol Free Daily Use Mouthrinse (DIN 02130823). These products are being recalled in Canada only.

Retailers have been told to immediately stop selling the products, and consumers have been told to discard any recalled mouthwash and contact Procter & Gamble at 1-800-566-7252 for refund. Health Canada recommended that any Canadians who have concerns should contact their health care provider.

April 2012 - P&G lost the bottle of recalled mouthwash I sent in, even though I have courier's signatures !!!! After 9-10 phone calls that went unanswered, I got the big kiss-off letter asking if I got my refund money! I thought they had more responsibility than this, that's what they preach but they sure don't walk the walk !!!!!! I am contemplating my next move....

Phillip, I just read your comments. I sent my bottle in (it was the contaminated batch) but not before I took samples, under the supervision of a Pharmacist, who signed a document to say he had done so. P&G will not answer my phone calls and I am frustrated! Are you going to court?

My mother was seriously affected (she is undergoing chemotherapty & has a weakened system). We had to rush her to emergency because she had troiuble breathing, & she spent a week in the hospital. Yes, they sent a check for the bottle which I will not cash. I refused to return the bottle (evidence). They also sent us a form to fill out saying everything was ok & for her to sign it ...y[Show More]My mother was seriously affected (she is undergoing chemotherapty & has a weakened system). Proctor & Gamble are all over this. At their request, I am sending the bottle back, but not before I take my own samples for analysis!!!!!

I am suspicious. I have lichen planus (an auto-immune disease) in my mouth. I bought a new bottle of the Oral B - my condition flared and I was quite ill. I quit the Oral B (the dentist asked me to use a stronger formula) and my condition settled down. Not sure where to go from here.
