Recall Impacts Nearly 1M Pounds of Breaded Chicken Nuggets, Patties, Fries, Other Products

A massive recall has been issued for ready-to-eat breaded chicken products commonly served to children nationwide, due to a risk that the nuggets, patties, fries and other products may contain metal fragments that pose a laceration or choking hazard.

The breaded chicken recall was announced by the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on March 23, after at least five consumer found metal objects in products manufactured by OK Foods.

To date, no injuries or illnesses have been reported in connection to the recalled chicken nuggets, patties and other ready-to-eat products. However, the metal fragments may pose a serious risk.

Metal fragments were also found during testing by FSIS, and the manufacturer indicates that a conveyor belt has been identified as the source of the contamination, as the machine may shed metal fragments during production.

Included in the recall are 933,272 pounds of various styles of ready-to-eat breaded chicken products that were manufactured between the dates of December 19, 2016 and March 7, 2017, which have the establishment number “P-7092” stamped inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The products were manufactured by OK Foods Inc., of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where they were distributed to retail locations and institutions nationwide.

Customers are being urged to stop consuming the recalled chicken products immediately due to the potential choking and laceration hazards that may arise from consumption. It is undetermined at the time how large or small the fragments that entered the products may be, and could pose mouth and stomach lacerations if swallowed.

FSIS has categorized this recall as a “Class I” recall, indicating that there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.
