UPPAbaby Stroller Adapter Recall Issued Following Reports of Falls, Infants With Broken Noses

Nearly 90,000 UPPAbaby stroller adapters sold with RumbleSeats are being recalled following dozens of reports of problems where they detached, resulting in infants suffering minor injuries, including two broken noses.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the UPPAbaby RumbleSeat recall on June 30, due to a design defect where seat adapters sold with the RumbleSeats may detach if the latch is misaligned upon installation, or from a child forcefully kicking the seat from behind, posing a fall hazard to the RumbleSeat occupant.

The RumbleSeat attaches to the stroller via two plastic adapters that fit onto the stroller frame. According to the CPSC recall notice, the manufacturer, Monahan Products, LLC, received 135 reports of the adapters detaching, including 77 incidents that resulted in bumps and scrapes, and two incidents that resulted in children suffering broken noses.

The recall affects RumbleSeat accessory adapters which were sold with the UPPAbaby RumbleSeat. The adapters were included with RumbleSeat Models 0252, 0917 and 0918, which can be found printed on the law label located on the underside of the product.

The Rumbleseats and their accessories were manufactured in China between September 2014 and July 2019, and imported by Monahan Products, LLC., which was doing business as UPPAbaby, based in Hingham, Massachusetts. They were sold at juvenile specialty stores from October 2014 through July 2019 for $180 to $200.

The CPSC estimates about 86,000 units were sold in the U.S., and the agency recommends consumers immediately stop using the recalled adapters and contact UPPAbaby to receive free replacement adapters.

Consumers can go to www.uppababy.com to determine if their RumbleSeat accessory adapters are included in the recall. If the adapter does not have a yellow tab, immediately stop using the recalled RumbleSeat accessory with the adapters and fill out the form on the UPPAbaby website in order to receive a free replacement adapter set.
