Recall for SpaghettiOs with Meatballs Issued for 15M Pounds of Canned Food

About 15 million pounds of “SpaghettiOs with Meatballs” have been recalled because of a production error that could cause the meat in the cans to spoil, potentially leading to food poisoning illness

The SpaghettiOs recall was announced on June 17 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

Campbell Soup Supply Company, LLC said it was recalling the SpaghettiOs because it was possible that the cans were under processed. An in-house inspection of a processing plant found that a cooker that was supposed to sterilize the food before canning was not working correctly. This could lead the meat in the cans to spoil.

Company officials said they were unsure of how long the device was malfunctioning, but they indicate that there have been no illnesses reported in connection to the canned food recall.

The recall affects about 15 million pounds of SpaghettiOs in 14.75-ounce cans. All of the cans have an establishment number of EST 4K and a “use by” date of June 2010 and December 2011 on the bottom of each can, along with the product code. The products affected by the recall include:

  • SpaghettiOs with Meatballs, with a product code of U5
  • SpaghettiOs A to Z with Meatballs, with a product code of 4N
  • SpaghettiOs Fun Shapes with Meatballs (Cars) with the product code KS.

The recalled cans were sold at various retailers nationwide and were manufactured and distributed between December 2008 and June 2010.

Campbells recommends that customers not eat the products and return them to the store where they were purchased for a full exchange or refund. Any customers with questions can call 1(866)495-3774 for more information.
