Trane Air Conditioning System Recall Issued Due to Shock Hazard

More than 100,000 Trane air conditioning systems have been recalled due to a risk that the units may not have sufficient grounding requirements, which could pose a shock and injury hazard to consumers.

The Trane recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on June 24.

Trane has acknowledged that the ground screws in some units do not have the threads required to provide sufficient grounding. Although there have not been any reports of injuries to date, this could cause shocks or other problems for consumers.

The recall includes 37 models of Trane XB300 and American Standard brand Silver PI split system outdoor cooling units. The units measure either 25.5 inches deep by 23.5 inches wide by 28.83 inches or 28.83 inches deep by 28.48 inches wide by 29.28 inches tall. The units have the Trane or American Standard logo on the front and the model numbers can be located on a silver nameplate on the back of the unit. For a full list of recalled models please visit the CPSC recall page linked above.

The air conditioning systems were manufactured in Mexico under Trane U.S. Inc., of Tyler, Texas, where they were sold through Trane and American Standard independent distributors and dealers nationwide from February 2010 to March 2014 for between $890 and $1,000.

The CPSC recommends that customers shut off the cooling units immediately by turning off the main breaker switch, and then check for a recalled model number. Customers with recalled models should contact Trane at 888-731-7561 or their installer for instructions on scheduling a free inspection and repair. Consumers may also visit www.trane.com/residential and click on the “XB300 Product Recall” link for more information regarding the recall.

We moved into our new home in July 2013. With the XB300 installed. In August 2016, the valve and the coil needed to be replaced. This was at a cost of $800. Now again one month later, the fan motor burn out as well. Its very costly and with a new unit you should not have to may this amount in repair fees within 3 years. Where is the quality here? I purchased a Trane air conditioner May 2014, the first thing to burn out was the fan blower in April 2016. Two months later July 2016, the evaporator coil leaked. All of this cost me $950 dollars. I bought a new air conditioner after my old conditioner was 15 years old, and the only thing I ever replaced on it was a capacitor. I bought a new air conditioner after my old conditioner was 15 years old, and the only thing I ever replaced on it was a capacitor. I have had nothing but problems with this new Trane unit, my gosh, its barely two years old. I find out later from the tech that all these dealers selling these units to customers were fully aware of the problems that Trane and several other manufacturers were having with the fan motors and evaporator coils leaking. I am stressed out and it's hard making it from paycheck to paycheck and bs, like this is going on. They knowingly and wilfully ripped me off. Lied to me. I want to be included on a class action suit, please. Thank you.
