Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC and Bridgestone Firestone Canada Inc. have recalled over 150,000 Firestone tires sold throughout the United States and Canada. The tires’ tread could separate, potentially resulting in loss of vehicle control.

The Firestone tire recall applies to approximately 135,000 FR380 P235/75 R15 Firestone tires and 27,000 LeMans Champion SE P235/75 R15 tires.

According to a recall notice posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the tires were produced with insufficient tread base guage. As the tires are used over extended periods of time, this could lead to car vibrations, cracking of the tire grooves, distortion of the tread or separation of the tread from the tire.

The recalled Firestone tires were manufactured at a facility in San Jose between June 2006 and September 2007. Although there have been no reported automobile accidents or personal injuries associated with the tire defects, Firestone is notifying all owners that the tires should be replaced free of charge.

Firestone FR380 tires in size P235/75 R15 with the following tire DOT serial numbers on the sidewall of the tire will be replaced:

  • WBHL 380 2306 through and including WBHL 380 3507
  • WBUL 380 2306 through and including WBUL 380 3507

LeMans Champion SE tires in size P235/75 R15 with the following tire DOT serial numbers on the sidewall of the tire will be replaced:

  • WBHL LC0 2306 through and including WBHL LC0 3506
