Half A Million 3M Scotch Thermal Laminators Recalled After Reports of Fires, Property Damage

More than 500,000 Scotch laminators are being recalled, due to a risk that they may catch on fire and cause serious injury or property damage.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the Scotch thermal laminator recall on December 8, indicating that a safety feature on the laminators may fail, allowing them to overheat and catch on fire.

Federal officials are aware of at least nine reports of laminators catching on fire, including three incidents that resulted in property damage. To date, the agency is not aware of any injuries related to the recalled products.

The recalled Scotch thermal laminators are light gray and white in color, with model numbers TL1302, TL1302VP, TL1302EF, and TL1302KIT. The recalled laminators measure approximately 13 inches wide and have โ€œScotchโ€ printed on front.

The laminators were manufactured in China and imported by 3M Company, of St. Paul, Minnesota. They were distributed for sale at Walmart, Staples, Costco and other retail stores nationwide and online at Walmart.com, Amazon.com and Staples.com from April 2014 through October 2022 for between $35 and $90.

Approximately 516,500 recalled Scotch laminators were distributed for sale throughout the U.S., while another 3,560 were distributed for sale in Canada.

CPSC officials are instructing consumers to immediately stop using the laminators and to unplug them to prevent potential overheating and fire risks.

Customers should fill out the online recall registration form to receive an email from 3M with information and instructions on how to properly dispose of the laminators and how to receive a full refund.

For additional questions or concerns regarding the recall customers are being encouraged to contact 3M at 800-722-4337 and reference the recall number 23-064.
