Costco Kawasaki Cordless Drill Recalled Due to Burn Hazard

About 45,000 Kawasaki cordless drills sold exclusively at Costco stores have been recalled after a number of reports suggest that they may overheat and cause burn injuries. 

The Kawasaki cordless drill recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on June 27, after the importer, Alltrade Tools LLC, of Long Beach, California, received at least 33 reports of the tools overheating, including information about at least one person who suffered a minor burn injury.

The CPSC has traced the problem to defective trigger switches, which can short circuit and create excessive heat.

The recall affects Kawasaki Cordless drills with a model number of 691761 and serial numbers from 11030 30201 to 11030 33656, 11040 00001 to 11040 17120, 11060 00001 to 11060 07340, 11070 00001 to 11070 05984, and 11070 16801 to 11070 20640. The drills were green and black and came with a 19.2v battery pack. They have “Alltrade Tools LLC” and “Made in China” printed in white letters on the left side and the model and serial numbers are on a label on the right side.

The drills were sold at Costco stores nationwide for about $50 from May 2011 through February 2012. They were manufactured by Wuxi Xinju Electric tools Co. Ltd. of Wuxi, China.

The CPSC recommends that consumers stop using the drills and register at www.alltrade2.fox-international.com in order to receive a free replacement drill. The company is attempting to contact consumers who bought the drill directly.

I bought this from Costco and never knew about this until today when I was trying to get a replacement battery for this since the original won’t charge and kept making a weird noise with charging it. Never got a notice from Costco about the recall or from the company.

I have one of these drills and just found out about the recall. None of the links work. Am I just out of luck?
