Dorel Safety 1st Stroller Recall Issued Due to Fall Hazard

More than 20,000 Safety 1st stroller systems are being recalled, due to a risk that the stroller tray may allow children to fall and become seriously injured. 

The Safety 1st stroller recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on August 24, following at least 30 reports of the front stroller tray that supports the infant car seat detaching from the stroller on one side. However, despite the incidents, no injuries to children have been reported.

Safety 1st Step and Go Travel Systems are created with a step-to-open design allowing the stroller to open by stepping on the pedal. However, a manufacturing defect may allow the folding mechanism on the stroller tray to partially disengage on one side when an infant car seat is used with the stroller or attached to the stroller. As one side partially disengages, this may allow a child in the car seat to fall and become injured.

Dorel Juvenile is recalling more than 20,000 units in the U.S. and nearly 6,000 sold in Canada. The stroller system is sold in several colors, along with an OnBoard 35 infant car seat. The Safety 1st logo is imprinted on the front of the stroller tray and model number TR314 is printed on a white label on the back of the stroller seat.

The stroller travel systems were sold at Babies R Us stores and other national retailers from May 2015 through June 2016. They were also sold online at amazon.com, babiesrus.com and walmart.com. Most retailers sold them for between $250 and $300.

Dorel Juvenile is calling on all customers to stop using the Safety 1st Step and Go Travel System with the infant car seat immediately. Customers who have a stroller system affected by the recall should contact Safety 1st  at 866-762-3036 for a free repair kit and refrain from using the stroller until the repair kit is received.
