Antimicrobial Foaming Soap Recall Issued in Canada Due to Contamination

A Canadian based company is recalling one lot of its antimicrobial hand soap, due to potential concerns that over contamination that may pose serious health risks to consumers, especially individuals with weakened or compromised immune systems.
The Avmor Ltd. Antimicrobial Foaming Hand Soap (Triclosan 0.3%) recall was announced October 15, after standard product testing by Health Canada detected pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is a bacterium most known to cause infections of the eye and outer ear.
The hand soap was sold under the Avmor Ltd. name brand in one-liter clear plastic cartridges, to be used with a foaming pump for both private and public settings. Recalled soaps have drug identification number (DIN) 02319144 and lot number F121392032. Avmor Ltd. warned that people should not use the hand soap if it is unidentifiable.

To date, no reports of adverse reactions have been reported to Avmor Ltd. but if consumers believed they may have used the product they should report to their healthcare practitioner.
Pseudomonas group bacteria enter healthy individuals usually through cuts, lesions, and open wounds causing infections, abscesses, and blood infections.
Individuals most affected by the pseudomonas group are those with compromised immune systems from cystic fibrosis, HIV/AIDS, cancer, burns, diabetes and severe lung disease because it leaves them more vulnerable to serious infections such as pneumonia, bone infections, urinary tract infections, meningitis, and gastrointestinal infections.
