Lowe’s Chandelier Recall Issued After Some Fall From Ceilings

Almost 49,000 Aztec chandeliers sold exclusively at Lowe’s have been recalled following at least six reports of the light fixtures falling from the ceiling, posing a risk of injury to bystanders.

A Lowe’s Chandelier recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on June 20, after the manufacturer received reports that the chandeliers’ fixture loop connecting them to the hanging chain failed, causing the chandeliers to fall from the ceiling.

Although no injuries have been confirmed at this time, the CPSC indicates that at least $6,000 in property damage has been reported and indicates that the product poses a safety concern in homes.

The recall affects Aztec nine light chandeliers marketed under the PORTFOLIO brand name with model number 34330. Model numbers can be located on a sticker inside of the ceiling canopy toward the top of the chandelier.

The chandeliers measure 31 inches wide by 31 inches tall and are made of metal with an “olde bronze” finish. The fixtures have a decorative faux marble ball in the center and come with etched amber glass shades. The arms of the chandeliers have single long curves at the top and “S” shaped arms at the bottom.

The chandeliers were manufactured in China under The I.D. Kichler Company of Cleveland, Ohio and sold exclusively at Lowe’s stores nationwide and on lowes.com from July 2006 through August 2011 for about $240.

Consumers should keep bystanders away from the immediate area under the chandeliers and contact Kichler at (800) 554-6504 or visit them online at www.kichler.com for information on how to obtain a free replacement kit or replacement chandelier for products that have fallen.

I bought a similar looking chandelier at Lowes Aug or Sept of 2009. 2 days ago the fixture loop and it came crashing down onto the dining room table( thank goodness I sold the glass top table or it would've been worse). I called Lowes and I got a guy who said you will have to find the receipt then we can tell you the manufacturer and you will have to contact them. I called Lowes and I got a guy who said you will have to find the receipt then we can tell you the manufacturer and you will have to contact them. That was after he had so rudely asked "What do you expect me to do about it?" Really? Lowe's sold a product that was dangerous! Oh and I can't find the receipt yet.
