Nearly 6 Million Contigo Kid’s Water Bottles Recalled Due To Choking Hazard

About 6 million Contigo Kidโ€™s water bottles are being recalled following nearly 150 reports of the spouts detaching, which may place children at risk of choking.

The Contigo Kidโ€™s water bottle recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on August 27, warning that the water bottleโ€™s clear silicone spout can detach, and pose a hazard for children.

Although there have been a large number of reports involving problems, including at least 18 incidents where the spouts were found in children’s mouths, there have been no reports of injuries to date.

The water bottles were sold individually as well as in two-packs and three-packs, at Costco, Walmart, Target and other stores nationwide and online on various websites from April 2018 through June 2019. The water bottles were sold for $9 to $24.

The recall affects 5.7 million bottles sold in the United States, as well as 157,000 sold in Canada and about 28,000 sold in Mexico.

The CPSC recommends consumers who own the recalled Contigo Kids Cleanable water bottle immediately stop using them, and take them away from children. They should also contact Contigo for a free replacement lid.
