Family Dollar and Dollar Tree Glue Gun Recall Follows Reports of Fires, Burn Injury

Federal safety officials are warning the glue guns may experience unexpected electrical malfunctions that could result in burn injuries or house fires

More than one million glue guns sold at Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores nationwide are being recalled, due to a risk the electrical components may malfunction and overheat, resulting in a fire and burn hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the glue gun recall on April 14, after the manufacturer received several reports involving fires and one incident where a consumer experienced skin irritation.

While specifics about the glue gun problems were not disclosed, Dollar Tree has become aware of at least seven reports of electrical malfunctions when using the guns, resulting in four fires. As a result, the CPSC is instructing consumers to unplug and stop using the recalled Dollar Tree glue guns immediately to prevent the possibility of further incidents.

The recall includes Crafter’s Square Glue Guns that are black with an orange trigger and tip and designed to be plugged into wall power to dispense hot glue. The glue guns have a silver UL listed label located above the handle with “GLUE GUN” and “XY-15302” printed on the label.

An estimated 1,025,000 units were distributed in the U.S., and another 21,900 were sold in Canada.
