EOS Lip Balm Settlement Reached in Lawsuit Over Severe Skin Reactions

Shortly after a class action lawsuit over EOS lip balm was filed on behalf of individuals who experienced severe skin reactions, blisters and other injuries, a settlement has been reportedly reached by the manufacturer.

The EOS lip balm lawsuit was brought by Rachael Cronin in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on January 12, seeking class action status to represent consumers throughout California and nationwide who purchased the products.

The complaint alleged that Evolution of Smoothness (EOS) failed failed to respond to a flood of complaints involving problems with the lip balm, including reports that that users suffered blisters, rashes, disfigurement and severe pain.

According to a report by FoxNews.com, the EOS lip balm settlement was reached by the manufacturer last week, but details on the terms of the deal have not been released.

Cronin indicated that she purchased “Summer Fruit” EOS lip-balm at a Target store in Los Angeles on December 4, 2015. As she used it, her lips became dry and cracked and began to bleed. Thinking she needed to use more, she applied more and her lips became so severely covered in blisters and rashes that she sought medical attention on December 7. Her condition lasted 10 days, after which she posted photos to Facebook, which, according to the lawsuit, set off a series of other women stepping forward.

EOS issued the following statement on January 28:

“We are pleased that the lawsuit brought against EOS has been resolved. Our products are safe – and this settlement confirms that. our lip balms are hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested, made with the highest quality ingredients, meet or exceed all safety and quality standards set by our industry and are validated by rigorous safety testing conducted by independent labs.

We love our customers and their enjoyment of our products is our top priority. Thank you for your continued support.”

It is unclear from the statement how settling the EOS lawsuit proves that the lip balms are safe. It is also unclear how the settlement will resolve EOS lip balm lawsuits that may be filed by other women who raise similar complaints of severe skin reactions.

I used the pink colored EOS for over a year and liked the results. I started using the pomegranate (light red egg). During the time between my PC and the demotagist I still used the EOS, thinking the rash was from nerves. I hat[Show More]I used the pink colored EOS for over a year and liked the results. I hated going out, I was very embarrassed of how my lips looked. I was told by the demotagist that the EOS lip balm was causing this. I threw all the EOS out of my house. My daughter had every flavor they made! Over the last two years I have suffered from severe dry lips, my lips will crack in the corners. I keep Vaseline on my lips day and night and I still have extremely dry lips. I once thought EOS was the bees knees, I found it is just overpriced poison!!

I have also had the same experience using this lip balm. My lips are cracked, bleeding and dry to the point that I thought I had fever blisters but didn't have a fever. Through a process of elimination which was yesterday (07.28.16), I discovered the only thing I changed is using this EOS lip balm everyday. I have stopped using this product, but I don't know if the dark blisters will ever fade [Show More]I have also had the same experience using this lip balm. I have cracks in the skin around my lips, especially at the corners of my mouth. My lips are pealing and sore. I have been using essentials oils on my lips for the past month trying to restore my lips and skin. I have to apply it on the hour so they do not hurt.
