Walmart Expert Grill Brush Recall Impacts 4.4 Million Over Wire Bristle Ingestion Risk

Expert Grill Brush Recall Impacts 4.4 Million Over Wire Bristle Ingestion Risk

Federal safety regulators have announced a recall of more than 4.4 million Expert wire grill brushes sold through Walmart due to the risk that metal bristles may detach and become embedded in food.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the Walmart Expert wire grill brush recall on October 1, warning that loose bristles may remain on grill surfaces and later be swallowed by consumers. Ingesting the sharp wires may cause serious internal injuries.

Although Walmart has not received any injury reports to date, several other manufacturers have recalled wire grill brushes following multiple incidents that resulted in hospitalizations and the need for surgery.

Wire Grill Brush Recalls

The Expert grill brush recall is the latest in a series of similar safety actions involving wire-bristle cleaning products this year.

In July, Cuisinart recalled 1.7 million grill brushes. A subsequent class action lawsuit alleged Conair continued selling defective Cuisinart grill brushes for years without warning consumers about the risk that detached bristles could be swallowed and cause serious injuries.

Earlier this year, an Oregon man also filed a Nexgrill class action lawsuit alleging the company failed to adequately address problems with more than 10 million recalled grill brushes and did not fully compensate consumers who purchased the affected products.

In addition, federal safety officials announced a Weber wire bristle grill brush recall involving 3.2 million units in February, following nearly 40 reports of injuries linked to the products. Since then, multiple Weber grill brush lawsuits have been filed across the country, alleging the manufacturer knew metal bristles could break free during use but failed to adequately warn consumers or remove the brushes from the market before injuries occurred.
