Xolair Heart Side Effects Lead to FDA Review July 17, 2009 AboutLawsuits Add Your Comments The FDA announced Thursday that they are investigating potential heart side effects of Xolair, a popular asthma medication, after preliminary findings of a study suggest that it could lead to heart attacks, strokes and other life-threatening injuries. Xolair (omalizumab), which is manufactured by Genentech, was approved by the FDA in 2003 for use among adults and children over the age of 12. The medication is prescribed to treat moderate to severe persistent asthma caused by airborne allergens (grass, pollen and dust). It is meant primarily for those whose asthma cannot be controlled by inhaled corticosteroids. Genentech reported $517 million in sales for Xolair in 2008. The FDA issued the early communication after receiving interim data from an on-going study that showed a disproportionate increase in heart problems potentially caused by Xolair side effects. Learn More About Xolair Lawsuit Side effects of Xolair may increase the risk of Heart Attacks and other serious problems. Learn More SEE IF YOU QUALIFY FOR COMPENSATION Learn More About Xolair Lawsuit Side effects of Xolair may increase the risk of Heart Attacks and other serious problems. Learn More SEE IF YOU QUALIFY FOR COMPENSATION The on-going study, Evaluating the Clinical Effectiveness and Long-Term Safety in Patients with Moderate to Severe Asthma (EXCELS), is a Genentech observational study of 7,500 subjects. EXCELS seeks to determine the long-term safety of Xolair, and is comparing 5,000 asthma patients who are taking Xolair, with a control group of 2,500 who are not. Accoring to the FDA, “interim data, submitted by the manufacturer of Xolair (Genentech), suggests a disproportionate increase in ischemic heart disease, arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy and cardiac failure, pulmonary hypertension, cerebrovascular disorders, and embolic, thrombotic and thrombophlebitic events in patients treated with Xolair compared to the control group of patients not given the drug.” The FDA Early Communication does not mean that they have concluded there is a causal relationship between Xolair and heart problems. Currently, the agency is not recommending that patients stop taking Xolair or that doctors stop prescribing the drug. After additional information and analyses become available, the FDA indicates that further guidance will be provided. Xolair already carries a “black box” warning due to the risk of anaphylaxis, which can cause trouble breathing, chest tightness, dizziness, fainting, itching, hives, and swelling of the mouth and throat. The warning indicates that some cases of anaphylaxis happened after the first dose, but patients could take Xolair for more than a year before anaphylaxis symptoms appear. The FDA is working with Genentech to obtain additional information about the interim results of the EXCELS study and will determine whether any regulatory action may be warranted, such as new warnings. The EXCELS study itself will not be completed until 2012. Since being on the medicine, I no longer wheeze and I feel better but my lung capacity is so low I can’t pass any of the breathing test. Has anyone noticed hair loss from taking these shots? I’ve lost much of my hair. Has anyone noticed an increase in blood sugar levels? I am now considered pre-diabetic.I feel better since taking the shots as long as I take things slow. Too much exhertion and I’m down for the count Kenneth June 11, 2019 I have been on Xolair for about one and a half years. I have had very bad asthma all my life. The doctor put me on four shots twice a month. I suffered some of the side side effects such as low fever at first,. but kept on taking the shots. I don’t have any side effects now, and I feel better now than I ever have in my entire life Christine June 7, 2017 I started taking Xolair in November of 2016 for hives. In December I caught a cold and haven’t felt the same since. I have had a sinus infection, ear infection and respiratory infection that hasn’t gone away with 2 rounds of antibiotics. The xolair worked for the hives but just made me sicker and sicker. I am still trying to get rid of all these infections after going off of it last month. I would much rather have hives to be honest than a body full of infections. Do not take this drug!!! zena May 29, 2017 I have diabetes and urticaria. I have had my first xoliar shot in the beginning of may 20017. According to how I feel now I will not take a second shot. My life quality have become worse. I think there is very Little research on this medicine especially when it is administered to elderly people. This medicine terifies me . Arlea May 13, 2017 I stopped get the biweekly shots after 4 1/2 months, when my breathing got worse. I was misdiagnosed with asthma. I do have a lot of allergies, but my main problem was emphysema. I was then placed on steroids for 4 months. I now have terrible joint and muscle pain has increased all over. I am hoping these side effects will diminish as no pain reliever helps. I refuse any narcotics for pain. I just want to know what to do? Lisa August 13, 2016 I have been on Xolair for 10 years. 3 shots every 2 weeks. No side affects, I may have to use my inhaler 2 times a week. I was 5- 6 times a day. Prednisone no more. That drug is the reason for so many side affects. Xolair has made my life 100 better. No heart problems yet. Jorge May 12, 2015 I have been taking Xolair for about 2.5 years. Am 55. In the beginning maybe noticed it kep me away from Hospital stays and emergencies. But after like 8 month did not see any FURTHER improvement in my health. The asthma doesn’t go away, the allergies don’t go away. Still have episodes due to weather changes. And like 1.5 years ago started developing heart arrhythmia. The cardiologist did test and had one artery that needed a stent but they didn’t put one in. Long story short have developed heart problems now, something I never had before with all the asthma medicine I took for many years. I myself stopped taking the Xolair like 4 month ago just do not see the benefits outweighing the risk. Since no actual physical benefits can be seen plus today doctors offices are to much in a rush and don’t take the time to actually monitor a person’s progress with the xolair. In the beginning remember the company would send out a questionnaire to be filled out by the patient . Questions like; How many times during the day do you use your rescue inhaler? How many times during the night do you have to get up because of the astrhma? How many times during the week have you felt short of breath? Things like that. And they would rate them with a number… Now today doctor’s offices are not even doing that. So in essence allergists offices are just putting the Xolair to people without any actual way of monitoring if there is or is not a progress in the patient. Thank god I took the time to look through the internet and see that there are people out there like me. I now see that there are some cases of people that where taking the Xolair and have developed heart conditions. I will stop taking now for sure and talk with the allergist. Thanks to many of the comments I read on here and the drought that I had of my heart problems having to do with the Xolair.. Patti February 19, 2015 Got my first round of Xolair shots yesterday for chronic urticaria. I have coughed a dry, non-productive cough nearly all day today. Also have joint pain, but I do have RA. Anyone else had the cough? Will it subside? debbie February 7, 2015 I just got on this xolair and I noticed I have sever pain in my lower right back ,has anyone else had this symptom?? Roxanne December 28, 2014 I am scheduled for a brain MRI on Jan 2nd both with an without contrast. It is believed that I have a tumor that is affecting my memory, speech, large motor skills abs so on as it is located on the front left lobe. I’m in constant pain daily… it is my new norm. I started xolair three months ago due to CIU. I have two injections every 28 days. I suffer server reactions such as facial deformation due to such enormous clusters of hives. They have caused a blood clot and use of eppi injections. It has helped some with the CIU but I’m not sure that it had helped enough to continue. My doctor wants to see how things are art the end of this 28 day cycle… if no improvement they are sending me on to Cleveland clinic. I desperately want my life back. I was once a very active and happy pre school teacher, now my life only consists of countless Dr appointments. Diana November 16, 2014 I just had a brain tumor removed, no cancer! But the surgeon thinks it may be a side effect of Xolair. He is doing research on it. Anyone out there heard of this happening? Karen July 26, 2014 Received my first (and only) dose of Xolair 300mg on July 14th. Within a half hour I had terrible headache/pressure in my head and by the end of the two hour wait period, I had tightness in my chest and swelling of my lymph nodes under my arms. I received this medication with lots of reservations, but thought finally I would give it a try as I have been on steroids more than off of them since September last year for chronic hives. Also since then, I have worsening of asthma, use my inhaler every day, whereas before maybe used it a few times in a year. I too am very fatigued, sleep a lot, and have lots of joint pain, brain fog. Personally I would not recommend this drug to anyone. Truly wish I had never taken it. Especially since I was never tested to find out what I was allergic to in the first place, my doctor stating that I was on too much medicine to get accurate results. Also have swelling in my legs and leg cramps, and now have to get an echocardiogram and stress test to make sure the tightness in my chest is not cardiac in nature. My advice is DON’T TAKE THIS MEDICINE! Avis July 21, 2014 I had my first dose of Xolair in June to treat chronic hives. I have since been suffering with severe muscle pain in the knee, legs and shoulders. In addition, I have had to take 2 regimens of Prednisone due to lip and facial swelling, which was not happening prior to taking the injections. I will not get any more injections. The benefits do not outweigh the risks. ERWIN June 30, 2014 I developed chronic hives while station in Germany. In December 2013, the conduct flared up again. I have been having daily outbreak’s. I received my first dose of 300 in May. The first dose seem to have help but did not relieve the hives itching and stinging symptom. To date, I have received four injections. I received a dose on June 23, 2014 and may condition went hay-wild. I can not be exposed to direct sunlight or any type of heat. Is there something I have missed about the medication. Nickie June 22, 2014 Hi all, I am just coming to the end of a 16 week trial on this drug. My Ige was high at 750 the consultant wants me to stay on it despite a resent increase to 1200!!! I already suffer with ehlers danlos ( a joint muscle problem) fibromyalgia, aspergillas bronchectasis and of course asthma. I also suffer from the side effects already mentioned fatigue, joint pain etc so I’m getting a double dose and don’t function half the time. So here’s the question…… Has anyone’s IGE increased whilst being on this drug which is meant to decrease the levels? Yolanda May 28, 2014 I’ve been taking xolair for over 3 yrs, has anyone been having a problem with hypertension? I suffer from pain in my shoulders and neck constantly, they are pretty much tender to the touch. please email me! loretta March 27, 2014 I have been taking zolair injections since 2011 ,it has helped my allergies a lot but last year in 2013 my shoulders and back started with pain so intense I went to the Dr, they hurt so bad now I can’t lift my arms it also makes my joints ache all over.so someone tell me what’s going on, Help. Tracy March 2, 2014 I have been on xolair since 2007 . I have for the last 12 months experienced severe pain in my legs and arms where I have the injection. Help im struggling with the side affects but have only been into hospital once with an attack since being on xolair. Britney January 24, 2014 I stareted kn xolair a month ago. I feel like I’m back at square one. Do I cont. The shots and feel sick and have more heart problems or stop and not breath due to my asthma Crystelle September 20, 2013 I have been taking Xolair shots every other week, and allergry shots inbetween Xolair two times a week. At first, it was an adjustment as I felt dizzy often when the shot was injected. I coded several years ago from an asthma attack I left go to long and caused me to pass out. I am less ill than ever before. Often I would get sick montly. With Xolair I am less ill. However, I get this weird feeling like I need to take in a large breathe of air to feel like I am still alive. I never had that feeling better. Also, never experienced anxiety till taking Xolair. I am looking into herbal medicines such as Clear Lungs; Clarks. But, afraid to mix in fear of something going wrong. I have read all the postings and praying for all. It’s not easy to decide what is best for your body. We leave it up to the physicians but I wonder if they really know if this shot has long lasting efforts or damage. Marva September 12, 2013 I recd xolair inj for a little less than a year. I began having dizziness shortness of breath chest pain heart palpatations and fatigue. I passed out in the grocery store was taken to the er admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with tachycard ia and heart rhythm issues. I did not have these problems s before using xolair however, I still have them today. I feel xolair caused the issued. Kelli July 23, 2013 had 2 shots of Xolair so far, and am done, i started 7 days ago with severe chest pain, thought i was having heart attack, i am only 43 and in very good shape. Running tons of tests but this is not worth feeling this way, i’ll take my chances with my asthma as i have for the other 42 years of my life. ogbe April 17, 2013 my doctor want me take xolair .I do not want to take because the side effect.could any one tell me if I am make mistake Sarah February 26, 2013 I’m trying to see if Xolair will work for me. I’m on Advair 500/50 and I don’t believe it’s working for me! This is not the first time I’m on it. My new pulmonologist suggested a blood test which I took and am a candidae for the Xolair! After reading all these reviews on side-effects, what’s the lesser of the two evils??~!!! I’ve been on steroids too many times already and once again….now what??!!!! It’s nice to know I’m not the only one having difficulty with the asthma….but, it’s very sad that drs can’t do more for us!!!! Janice December 10, 2012 Dec,10, 2012 Been on Xolair for just over two years. Severe joint pain in shoulders and knees. Need xolair because I have had so many asthma attacks and can’t take the asthma meds as it causes heart problems. Any one have any suggestions Janice December 10, 2012 Been on Xolair for over 2 yrs. Now have severe joint pain in shoulders and back. It has helped the asthma but wonder about the pain. Have only had steroids once this yr for asthma attack. Very scared. because the attacks used to be so severe I was on steroids every month or more for attacks and I am allergic to most of the inhalers they cause heart problems for me. and the doctor insists I take Xolair shots cause asthma is so bad and they don’t know what else to try. Any one else having joint pain? kimbery November 27, 2012 Updatefrom july 2012 currently cont xolair back taking prednisone advair ventolin symbicort. I am still having difficulty breathing during daily activites. Heart rate drops to 90/54 dizziness pain in arms back headache my asthma dr cont to send me to referals heart dr. For irregular heart. In which all the drs recomend keep up treatment and suppliment potassium increase sodium in diet.. i will keep posting i am going to contact a local attorney. And another pulmonogist this week. Marci August 25, 2012 Also, to the post from Linda on May 14th. . . I’ve been off the shots for about 6 months and I’m still having the same issues. I’m seriously afraid the side effects maybe permanent. Marci August 25, 2012 About 4 to 5 years ago I went to my allergist due to having severe itching of my eyes, ears and throat and he started me on Xolair. Although he claims he started me on them due to my asthma that was NOT why I had gone in to see him, nor the reason I started the shots. I now have severe chronic fatigue, joint pain, chest pressure, shortness of breath, dizziness, mental fog, periods of my heart racing, severe swelling of the lymph nodes in my neck that come and go at random, weird skin sensations and rashes, numbness and tingling throughout my body including my neck and face, muscle cramps, hand and feet swelling, and Raynaud’s syndrome. I never experienced any of these symptoms prior to taking these shots and fully believe, like so many others, these shots have caused all of this. I to feel lied to my Doctor as I repeatedly asked him about the possibility of the shots causing my symptom and he repeatedly told me he didn’t believe the shots had anything to do with my issues. After going to doctor after doctor, I believe that the itching I was experiencing was due to a gluten and wheat intolerance. But because my allergist refused to listen to my concerns, flat out refused to do any food allergy testing, and assured me the shots were not the cause I’m now left dealing with the side effects of the very dangerous drug. Something needs to be done to warn people about the dangers of this drug before they agree to take it!!! Kimberly July 9, 2012 I was a steroid dependant asthmatic before xoliar I am currently entering my 10th yr. of xolair injections monthly. I am very concerned. I now have a lung nodule on the left lung, paralel to my heart. I have chronic fatigue, dizziness while exercise, my heart rate drops suddently and my arms feel very heavy, Pain in my back always. been to ER several times with a 0 potassium Nobody seems to know where its going. I can say my life has felt as close to normal breathing while taking xolair, but the long term side effects are alarming. and I am now being monitored for cancer, I am told we can just watch the lung nodule for change. I feel lied to by my dr’s and I think they know exactly what is going on. I feel like I too am a victim from a drug that had no long term sudies. Linda May 15, 2012 In September 2010 my pulmonary doctor put me on XoLair. I was given two shots every two weeks and the shots seemed to help my asthma. However, in January 2011 within four months in the program, I was diagnosed with shingles which was terribly painful and lasted about two months. Later last year I had a severe case of vertigo which lasted six-eight weeks. I also had several broncial infections throughout the year where I was put on predisone and strong antibiotics. From Christmas 2011 through January 2012 I had severe stomach problems and experienced shortness of breath which I had never had issues with before. I had carpal tunnel surgery on both my wrists in January & February. In preparation for that, I failed my EKG which I’ve never done before. I have never had any heart issues before. I had to have an echocardiogram, but it came back o.k. But, I still have shortness of breath. Other than asthma, I have always been healthy and very active. I’m a serious hiker and ballroom dance several nights a week. So, the strange aitments in 2011 and this year are totally out of character for me. In mid-February of this year, I was hospitalized for 7 days with another weird airment. My tonsils and lymph nodes in my neck and throat swelled up vertually closing off the air to my lungs. I ran a fever of 103 degrees and thought I was going to die. My white blood cells skyrocketed above 18000 and the four hospital doctors had no clue what was causing my problems. I had CT scans, ultra sounds, and all types of tests. They tested me for HIV, hepititis, and everything possible, but everything came back negative. The infectious disease doctor had no clue what was causing my problems but finally ruled it viral along with bacterial. Thank goodness they finally put me on two strong antibiotics that started helping me. Since I was having stomach problems, I was given an upper GI and colonscopy. The colonscopy was fine, but the GI revealed I had esophagitis and gastritis. That occurred a few weeks after I was in the hospital. I had to take two weeks of strong antibiotics for that as well and hopefully that ailment is in the past. Once I came home from the hospital on February 18, I have refused to take anything in hopes of getting my life back. I still experience shortness of breath and I have severe water retention. My legs and feet swell terribly. The doctor has me on one 20-mg lasix and one 10-meq potassium pill daily. Other than those two pills, I refuse to take anything else. All these airments have occurred since I’ve been on XoLair for 16 months. As I said, XoLair seemed to help my asthma, but it appears it has messed me up. The side effects are worse than my asthma and I want my life back. I haven’t had the XoLair shots since January. Has any one else experienced these same type of problems while on XoLair? If so, how long should I expect these problems to exist. In other words, how long does XoLair stay in your system? Lyndsey November 19, 2011 Xolair is a miracle medicine – but for me. Not every medicine works for everyone. I couldn’t handle most inhalers due to tachycardia so my asthma treatment options were very limited. In fact albuterol sent my heart rate to 180 once and caused symptoms similar to a heart attack. When my doctor started checking into xolair, I was hesitant. My IgE levels did come back extremely high. I was breaking out in hives nightly, hospitalized for exacerbations every 3-4 months, and numerous ER visits. Which, as an ER nurse myself was extremely frustrating. My other concern was by depleting my IgE, would I be more at risk for infection? I decided all the steroids I wad taking put me at an even bigger risk so that wasn’t an issue. After a year battle w the insurance company I started 2 injections every 2 weeks in June 2009. I haven’t been hospitalized since!! A few ER visits but usually related to illness induced asthma or chemical exposures. It has truly given me my life back! Of course I am concerned about potential side effects long term. But my current quality of life was non existent. Some drugs work for some people. It’s trial and error. Like I said, albuterol almost killed me. Imagine being an asthmatic (and I’m a really bad one who tends to make docs – in this case that are also my friends – very very nervous) and saying “oh by the way, be careful w the albuterol cause if u fix the breathing, u might throw me into SVT!” Talk to your doctors. Take charge of your health. Health professionals are humans, not gods. Find a good one that will work with you and treat you like a person, not just a patient. My asthma doc is amazing and that makes all the difference!! Mary August 22, 2011 I’m glad I found this site… I was diagnosed with POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) in feb and i believe now it might have something to do with xolair. i’ve taken it for almost 2 years. i’m 19 years old, and most of my treatments have gone smoothly, i’ve been intubated in the past from my asthma, it’s nearly killed me enough times that i can count them out on two hands by now… however 2 weeks ago my last injection, i bled rather profusely from both arms, and then got darker bruises than usual that haven’t gone away even now. the one arm had horrible muscle pain and weakness (i couldn’t hold or lift anything) and now when i press down gently on the bruise i get a horrible deep burning muscular pain and that weakness, along with nausea and dizziness….does anyone know what this could be??? Roby August 2, 2011 Asthma is the result of an inflammatory response by the immune system to the overgrowth of some bug, usually a fungus, usually Candida yeast. Drugs like Xolair and Remicade(used for arthritis) inhibit the function of the immune system but do nothing to reduce fungal levels. At best, use of these drugs makes as much sense as continuing to clean oily pelicans when you have an oil leak under the ocean. At worst, these drugs cause life threatening illness such as heart disease and cancer. Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy is an irreversible brain disease that results from overgrowth of a common virus that is usually kept under control by the immune system. These drugs inhibit the immune system in such a way as to allow this virus to grow. It turns the brain into oatmeal. There is no cure. Asthma is cured by addressing fungal overgrowth. Yvonne June 29, 2011 How long does the injection last when given? I have been taking it since 2006. Twice I have had severe heart racing and one time I had a hear monitor on and the Dr who read it said I was moments away from a stroke. Someone help please!! Lee April 3, 2011 The british and swiss have developed a vaccine for asthma. It should be out in europe at least in 4 to 5 years. It was developed from a harmless bacteria related to TB. They studied children who had asthma that went into remission and those who did not go into remission. They found the children who went into remission had one thing in common they all played in the dirt and were infected with this bacteria mycobacterum vaccae. They found it balances the immune system. The vaccine works. Imagine that somthing in nature that balances the immune system. If it does not come to the US ill be on a plane to zurich in 4 to 5 years. Im trying to figure out how to obtain the bacteria to culture myself. Its not safe to eat dirt but the bacteria is harmless. kris March 14, 2011 in 03 i mysteriously became allergic to everything it seemed, stringy discharge from eyes, asthma attaks that landed me in the hospital every other week, not to mention more than half of my skin was covered in eczema, and large bright welts, digestive disturbances not to be mentioned here, sneezing, memory lapses, and panic attaks. I lost my job because of that, and subsequently lost my health coverage. IGE count was nearly 2000. Suffering on steroids, and tied to albuterol machine that made me feel like a stroke was gonna happen, I gained 40lbs. Hyper IGE.. What gives? I am now covered by insurance again. After recieving three vials every other week, I am clear. I do not throw caution to the wind, and keep myself on a strict diet, no sulfites, gluten, soy etc; moved to a better environment, a no clorine water source.. WOW! I am getting better! To Linda: yes I have lost my appetite too, and weigh less than 100, and I believe that leaving the steroids behind with possible adrenal damage from the poison corisone, my doc is working up my metabolites currently. I do not believe the Xolair has caused this. So far after three years I can say, after all I’ve been through, at 45yrs old, I am in better shape than most my age, look younger, even though I get fatigued. I was fatigued before the “sudden onset”, had migraines, and “fibromyalgia”. Found severe damage in spinal neck, and a syrynx (a cyst in the spinal cord). This is not from Xolair either, the pain was there from the 90’s. have no injectionsite bruising with current RN giving doses, she is slow and shallow. A pro. My breathing tests are better than ever, and my skin is good. Xolair has helped me beyond my wildest dream.. I hope the success continues, and I get no Serious side affects. Now I can mow my lawn in peace. tammy March 14, 2011 My son has been taking this medication for three and a half years. He was seven when he started, the youngest patient at his clinic. He has had no side effects. It has changed his life. He was so sick three drs thought he had cystic fibrosis. He looked very sick, was constantly on antibiotics and in the drs office. Since starting this medication he has had no er visits and his dr visits dropped substantially. But i am now worried about his age and that he is dependent on this medication. We tried stopping and he was very sick within two weeks. I have trouble finding information on children his age taking this drug, everyone seems to be a lot older than him on these sites. I wonder because of his age are the side effects less? more? will he be on this forever? it feels that way. noreen February 17, 2011 thank god.. i am not alone .. for the past 2 months i have had bronchitis, stomach flu, an er trip because my bp shot up to 200 and i had none stop sweats and chills for 24 hrs (of course they found no cause) dizziness, pains, ..finally he took me off the zolair after i linked all my ailments and symptoms for the past 2 months from lungsgurgling with great green gobs of yuk to a myriad of problems ..too many antibiotics to name and nothing solved the problems; they told me the immediate injection reaction ws because zolair is so thick it takes time to disperse into the body..and dont forget the bruise that followed.. Greg January 14, 2011 My mother started receiving Xolair about 1.5 yrs ago. She is a non-smoker with severe emphysema. She did well . . . until 6 months ago. Started with uncontrollable bleeding from one injection site. Now has debilitating pain in arms and shoulder area (including joint pain). Also has developed skin patches that are cancerous so she frequents the dermatologist to have them removed. Add in that she has rapid heart rate that no longer responds to meds. After reading up on all the side effects, it is highly possible that Xolair is the common denominator in all these recent and varied issues. Not sure where we will go from here. Note: Mom’s respiratory functions on Xolair has definitely improved and has given her the opportunity to live a very active life. Does anyone have an alternate form of treatment that has worked for them? Would appreciate any comments or similar sharing of experiences. Lynn January 10, 2011 I am a mom to my 29 yr old high functioning autistic son. One of his doctors has reccommended this shot twice a month. I am not sure if this is a good way to go for him. He has a high tolerance for pain and so I would not know if he hurts or feels bad, like joint pain etc. Please comment on what is the best advice you patients out there can give me on whether to do this or not. Does this eliminate prednisone or any other meds? I love him dearly and it is hard to do the right thing without you out there taking this med and sharing your thought. Thanks Linda December 31, 2010 I have been on Xolair for 6 months to control my asthma. I take 3 injections once every 14 days I have lost 30 pounds since I have at least 2 days out of the 14 where I run a low grade fever and have no desire to eat. The rest of the time I have a dimensed appetite. Does anyone else have this happening as well? My IEG levels have dropped so it is helping the asthma. Marilyn November 7, 2010 Wish everyone kind enough to post here also post their experiences on the Xolair Yahoo group. Especially the more recent ones with serious issues. This group has over 500 members who would want to have this information, and may have information that can help you out. Sue September 29, 2010 Update from previous post – a second chest x-ray, after a run of antibiotics showed no change in the “Shadow” on my lung, but now extends to something on my heart. I am scheduled for a CAT scan of my chest Friday – without contrast, which I’m allergic to. Will someone PLEASE explain what is happening to me and what a will likely face. I am allergic to Morphine, so pain medication is not an option I’m aware of. Thank You. Brandt September 23, 2010 I had pulmonary embolism in both lungs while on Xolair, I’m still dealing with issues from the event. I was taking a fairly high dose, and it was wroking very well on my Asthma, but several of my doctors feel like it may have contributed to my pulmonary embolism. My PE took place on 1.24.10. They took me off of it, and I’m now controlling my asthma with advair, allegra, flonase, and Xopanex. I’ve been in the ER 4 times since January, and have a stack of medical bills up to my eyeballs Sue September 19, 2010 Xolair worked miraculously for my COPD/asthma. Having had previous spinal surgery, I didn’t realize that the new pain could be caused by the xolair. Further, I’ve been on Xolair since 04/09. I tried to stop it and the COPD returned after 1 month without the injections. I now have a shadow on my lung and high back pain and COPD, after having a shot 7 days ago. The allergist is treating me for a lung infection. HELP!!! stephanie May 16, 2010 I have been on Xolair injections since June 2008. From the first injection I suffered horrendous pain in my back and shoulders. I ended up on Diazepam and Tramadol every day to try and get relief from pain. I ws told it probably was not connected, but ?? I still have pain but less than it was. Extreme fatigue yes, but the quality of life I have on Xoliar has been far better than without. Unfortunately having been on Xolair for 2 yeras off permanant steroids for 18 months, I still suffered a sever asthma attack and back to square one again. chronic asthma patient May 12, 2010 I started taking Xolair in February 2010, two injections every fourteen days. From the first injection I have experienced fatique, dry skin, had no energy, aching bones, swollen joints, feeling faint, and sudden vitamin B defiency, a decrease in T-cell count, vitiligo and extreme pain. I have undergone numerous tests including HIV, Lupus, Diabetes, Arthiritis, and Doctors still can’t figure out what is wrong with me. As for asthma Xolair is the best thing that has ever happened, BUT the side effects are not worth it. Is there anyway to correct side effects caused by Xolair? MJ February 2, 2010 I’ve been on Xolair since 4/2007 – in Jan 2010 my doctor advised me about the study indicating possible problems with xolair. I have been suffering with viral bronchitis – and now it appears that I also have some heart problems – which will need to be resolved. After a month of coughing, and not being able to breathe well, and serious fatigue, and no energy, difficulty doing any physical activity due to shortness of breath, and after comparing my current ECG’s with several taken prior to my taking xolair – the current one shows serious changes. I am now having to determine if I am also a victim of this medication. 1 2 Older Comments Share Your CommentsFirst Name*Last NameEmail* Shared Comments*This field is hidden when viewing the formI authorize the above comments be posted on this page Yes No Post Comment I authorize the above comments be posted on this page Weekly Digest Opt-In Yes, send me a weekly email with the latest lawsuits, recalls and warnings.
