Firestone Tire Recall: 150,000 Tires with Risk of Tread Separation

Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC and Bridgestone Firestone Canada Inc. have recalled over 150,000 Firestone tires sold throughout the United States and Canada. The tires’ tread could separate, potentially resulting in loss of vehicle control.

The Firestone tire recall applies to approximately 135,000 FR380 P235/75 R15 Firestone tires and 27,000 LeMans Champion SE P235/75 R15 tires.

According to a recall notice posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the tires were produced with insufficient tread base guage. As the tires are used over extended periods of time, this could lead to car vibrations, cracking of the tire grooves, distortion of the tread or separation of the tread from the tire.

Yesterday, my daughter was on her way back to college when half the tread peeled off her Firestone Affinity Touring tire. She was going 70 mph on Hwy 16 near Vidalia Ga. The tire has approximately 16,000 miles on it. Fortunately, she was able to pull over safely but she was stranded along the highway and scared as hell! The tread of the tire did considerable damage to her vehicle. As she was talking (crying) to me on the phone, a Georgia State Patrol officer pulled up to assist her. This phone call could've been very different had she lost control of the vehicle. Thank God she is ok but now I am probably in for a battle to determine who pays for the damage.

My wife had a Firestone Affinity Touring Tire explode on her vehicle two days ago while driving on I-4 near Lakeland, FL resulting in her losing control for a brief period of time and heavily damaging the right front side of her vehicle including the fender and bumper!. The insurance company (Progressive) is presently working on the car , but I have to come up with the $500.00 deductible. Do I have a recourse against the tire company or Tires Plus? It doesn't seem that he tires are in the recall list.

Recall??? I have potenza RE92 on my 2008 Yaris Toyota. It began riding "rough" and was told by Toyota that it isnt the car and could be the tires. They are potenza RE92. Tubeless Steel Belted M+S. P185/60R15. TO505 E-92Z and CKM2608. Am I entitled to a discount? I have only 15,000 miles on the vehicle. Thanks
