Globe Bicycle Recall Issued Due to Risk of Breaking Forks

A recall has been issued for an estimated 12,000 specialized bicycle components that were imported from China, due to reports of the faulty front forks breaking, which could pose a fall and injury hazards to riders.ย

The Specialized bicycle components voluntary recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on September 25, after at least four reports of the front forks breaking, resulting in facial fractures, head and shoulder injuries, and cuts.

The recall consists of the following brands sold in various colors with the name โ€œSpecializedโ€ written on the lower frame tube.

  • Globe Vienna 3, Globe Vienna 3 Disc, Globe Vienna 4, Globe Vienna Deluxe 3, Globe Vienna Deluxe 4,
  • Globe Vienna Deluxe 5 and Globe Vienna Deluxe 6 bicycles.

The recalled bicycles were sold at authorized specialized retailers nationwide from July 2007 to July 2012 for between $550 and $1,100. The bikes were manufactured by Kinesis, of China and were imported to the U.S. for distribution by Specialized Bicycle Components Inc., of Morgan Hill California.

The U.S. CPSC is advising consumers to stop using these bicycles immediately, due to the risk of suffering an injury if the fork brakes.

Distributors announced that consumers should return the recalled products to a Specialized retailer for a free installation of a free replacement fork. Specialized retailer has provided a full list of recalled bike models and safety notices at www.specialized.com. Consumers may also contact the retailer with any questions at (877) 808-8154.
