Fuel Leaks Lead to Hustler and BigDog Lawn Mower Recall

An estimated 18,000 lawn mowers have been recalled due to reports of failed valve fittings, which may cause the lawn mowers to leak fuel, posing a potential fire hazard.

The Hustler and BigDog lawn mower recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on November 1, after the manufacturer received reports of at least 152 incidents where the fuel tank’s vent valve fitting failed to seal properly.

Although no injuries or property damage have been reported in connection with the defective lawn mowers, the CPSC has determined that the potential fuel leaks pose a substantial fire hazard. The commission is advising consumers to stop using the lawn mowers immediately.

Continued problem with my Hustler Super duty. I quit using left tank years ago because it continued to leak. Local Hustler dealer (not one where I bought it) said there was no recall on it and want to charge me the repairs. I said to read service bulletin 504 and that Hustler would pay for it. Crickets.

I have had the same problem with the leaking fittings. I’ve had them replaced twice since the recall and my mower is in the shop for servicing at this very moment and the fittings are loose and need to be changed and I’m being charged for it cause my mower is no longer in warranty. Love my Big Dog 1060 but I shouldn’t have to pay for this continued problem.

I have had the local Hustler dealer change the vent fittings twice. Excel is not solving the problem they just use a "quick fix". The vent fitting is hard plastic and eventually cracks and the mower splashes out gas when mowing. Other manufacturers have used the orange rubber material in place of the hard plastic fitting. This is would Excel needs to do. This , I think, will remove the POTENT[Show More]I have had the local Hustler dealer change the vent fittings twice.
