Kohl’s Sensio Slow Cooker Recall Issued After Fires Reported

About 25,000 Sensio Slow Cookers sold exclusively at Kohl’s Department Stores have been recalled after increasing reports that they can overheat and sometimes catch on fire.

The Kohl’s slow cooker recall was announced on August 31 by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) after Sensio, Inc., the manufacturer, received 60 reports of the control panels overheating. The complaints include reports of the control panels smoking, sparking, melting and in at least three cases the panels actually caught fire.

The overheating slow cookers have caused damage to countertops in at least 14 cases. However, there have been no injuries or major fires reported as a result of the defective slow cookers.

The slow cooker recall affects about 25,000 Bella Kitchen 5-quart programmable slow cookers by Sensio. All of the affected units have a model number of WJ-5000DE, with a date code of 0907 or 0909. The model number and date code are located on a label on the underside of the slow cooker. The units are black and have “Bella Kitchen” on the control panel.

The slow cookers were sold exclusively at Kohl’s Department Stores from July 2009 through December 2009 for $20 to $40.

The CPSC recommended that any consumers who own the affected slow cookers should stop using them immediately, make sure they are unplugged, and contact Sensio for instructions on how to receive a full refund. Consumers with questions or trying to return a Bella Kitchen Slow Cooker can go to the company’s website at www.acbpromotions.com/sensiorecall.

I didn't not have my receipt from Kohl's and only received a check for $22, for a product I paid $40 for. Why not send me a coupon to replace the crock pot? A new 5 qt. programmable slow cooker will cost me more than the $22 rebate I received.

I calles the recall nunber and all you have to do is fill out the claim form and attach the label found on the bottom of the slow cooker, estimate how much you oaid and send it in. Should take 8-10 weeks to peocess.

Why doesn't Kohs take the cookers back and issue a rebate? This places the burden of cutting the cord, packaging the cord, postal expense, getting rid of the cooker and searching for the receipt. In our case the cooker was a Christmas gift we gave to our son. We don't have the receipt and it probably won't be recovered. It seems to me this recall was made as hard as possible to discourage folks[Show More]Why doesn't Kohs take the cookers back and issue a rebate?
