KTM ATV Recall: Risk of Brake Failure and ATV Crash

Approximately 2,700 model year 2008 and 2009 KTM all terrain vehicles have been recalled due to problems with the brakes, which could cause the rider to lose control of the vehicle and suffer serious injuries in an ATV crash.

The KTM ATV recall applies to 2008 model year KTM 450XC and 525XC ATVs, and 2009 model year KTM 450XC, 525XC, 450SX and 505SX ATVs.

According to a recall notice posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and KTM North America, Inc. on February 10, 2009, the KTM ATV’s rear brake caliper support could crack and the front brake operation could experience a loss of pressure. This could cause the rider to lose the ability brake or control the streering.

The recalled KTM ATV were sold throughout the United States between August 2007 and January 2009 for between $9,300 and $11,700.

The models impacted by the recall are single rider ATV which were sold are black and orange in color. The model name and KTM logo are located on the side of the vehicles.

Owners of ATVs impacted by the KTM recall have been asked to stop using their vehicles and to contact their local KTM dealer to schedule a free repair.
