Nautilus Elliptical Recall Issued Due to Fall Hazard

About 10,000 Schwinn 460 Elliptical Exercise Trainers by Nautilus have been recalled after reports of problems where the foot plates may break or detach, causing the users to fall off the exercise machine while working out. 

The Nautilus Elliptical Exercise Trainer recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on Tuesday, after Nautilus received at least nine reports of foot plates coming off or breaking.

According to the CPSC, the foot plates can detach from the Elliptical Exercise Trainer while a person is using it, constituting a fall hazard. Although, no injuries have been associated with the problems, at least one users struck his knee while falling off the elliptical machine.

The recall affects about 10,000 Nautilus Elliptical Exercise Trainers sold under the model name Schwinn 460. It is a gray anodized aluminum exercise machine 73 inches tall and 54 inches long. It has handlebars with black rubber padding and heart rate sensors on both sides. It also has a touch-screen console, adjustable fan and water bottle holder. The Schwinn logo is located on the bottom right side of the base of the exercise machine.

The recalled exercise machines were sold at Dick’s Sporting Goods, AAFES, specialty fitness retailers and sporting goods stores nationwide, as well as online through Nautilus.com and Amazon.com from July 2008 through May 2011 for about $1,000.

The CPSC recommends that consumers with the affected exercise machines stop using them immediately and contact Nautilus for a free repair kit and extended warranty. Consumers with questions can call Nautilus at (800) 259-9019, or visit the company’s website at www.schwinn.com.
