The recalled Swingasan chairs and stands may pose a variety of injuries to consumers who fall from them or tip over inside of the chairs, including bruising to lower extremities, back, head and arms.

The suspended chairs measure up to 82.5 inches tall, and may cause serious injuries as a result of a fall. The chairs also pose a tip over hazard due to an unsteady base, which could result in an entrapment hazard if the steel stand tips over on the user.

The recall includes all Pier 1 Imports Swingasan chairs and stands that were sold separately and in various colors. The chairs hang from a steel stand that is made out of a wrought iron frame covered with woven plastic wicker. The stands are made of steel and were sold in only four colors measuring between 42 and 82.5 inches in height.

The chairs were manufactured in China under the Pier 1 Imports brand, and were sold exclusively at Pier 1 Import stores nationwide and online at www.pier1.com between January 2010 through August 2015, for between $200 and $400 for both the chairs and stand.

According to the CPSC, an estimated 260,000 hanging chairs and stands were sold in the United States and another 16,000 were distributed for sale in Canada.

Customers are being asked to stop using the recalled chairs and stands immediately and contact Pier 1 Imports at 855-513-5140 for a free repair kit, or customers can return the chair and stand to the store of purchase for a full refund. Customers who purchased the Podasan Mocha and Orange Swingasan chairs should return the products to the store of purchase for a full refund, as there is no repair kit for these particular models. Customers may visit Pier 1 Imports website for further recall information by going to www.pier1.com and navigating to the “Product Notes & Recalls” link at the bottom of the page.
