Roblox Sexual Assault Lawsuit Alleges Predator Used Uber To Transport Minor Across State Lines to His Home

Roblox Sexual Assault Lawsuit Alleges Predator Used Uber To Transport Minor Across State Lines to His Home

A new Roblox sexual assault lawsuit alleges that a sexual predator used the popular online gaming platform to groom a minor over time, eventually arranging for an Uber ride to transport the child across state lines to his home, where the plaintiff says she was sexually assaulted.

The complaint (PDF) was brought by a woman identified only with the pseudonym Jane Doe in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on April 24. It names Roblox Corporation, Discord Inc. and Uber Technologies Inc. as defendants.

Doe claims Roblox failed to implement adequate safeguards to detect or prevent predatory conduct on its platform, while Discord allegedly enabled the grooming to continue through private communications. The lawsuit also alleges Uber failed to maintain sufficient protections to prevent an unaccompanied minor from being transported.

Roblox Sexual Exploitation Risks

Launched in 2006, Roblox has grown into one of the most widely used online gaming platforms. It attracts millions of daily users, many of whom are children and teenagers. However, critics have long warned that the platform has become a hotspot for predatory behavior, arguing the company failed to take sufficient action to address known risks for children while continuing to rapidly expand its user base.ย

As a result, there are currently more than 150 Roblox sexual exploitation lawsuits filed in federal courts across the country. Many of these claims allege the company failed to adequately protect children using its platform from sexual predators. They indicate that adult users were often able to pose as minors and initiate conversations with children, leading to inappropriate and harmful interactions.

According to the lawsuits, these alleged failures by Roblox have resulted in incidents involving grooming, coercion, the exchange of sexually explicit images of minors, blackmail and, in some cases, reports of sexual assault, kidnapping and human trafficking.

Roblox Sexual Assault Allegations

According to the complaint, Doe first encountered her alleged abuser through Roblox when she was only 15 years old. The lawsuit indicates the predator initiated contact with the child on the Roblox platform and moved their communications to Discord. These conversations allegedly became increasingly manipulative and coercive, and ultimately amounted to grooming behavior.

Doe claims the predator exploited Robloxโ€™s communication features to build trust and establish a relationship with her, despite the platform being marketed as safe for younger users. Over time, the lawsuit alleges the predator persuaded the child to leave her home in Indiana and travel to meet him in person in New Jersey.

The complaint states that the abuser arranged for an Uber ride to pick up the minor and transport her across state lines to his residence. Once there, the lawsuit alleges the child was subjected to sexual assault.

According to the complaint, Roblox allegedly failed to properly monitor communications, enforce age-appropriate safeguards or deploy sufficient moderation tools to identify and stop inappropriate interactions between adults and minors. The lawsuit suggests that stronger oversight and proactive safety mechanisms could have prevented the predator from targeting and communicating with the child.

The complaint also says that Uber failed to implement adequate safeguards to prevent the transportation of an unaccompanied minor across state lines. Doe argues that Uber did not have sufficient verification systems in place to identify that the passenger was a child or to flag the trip as potentially dangerous.

โ€œThis action seeks to hold Defendants Roblox, Discord, and Uber accountable for facilitating the sexual exploitation and abuse of Plaintiff, who was 15 years old at the time of the abuse and is now barely an adult. The unimaginable injuries Plaintiff suffered were possible only because of the egregiously tortious conduct of Defendants.โ€

The lawsuit raises allegations of fraudulent concealment, negligence, failure to warn, unreasonable design, negligent undertaking, design defect, and violations of specific federal statutes. It is seeking damages for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress and medical treatments.

Roblox Child Exploitation Lawsuits

In December 2025, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) consolidated all Roblox child exploitation claims into a multidistrict litigation, or MDL, in the Northern District of California, where U.S. District Judge Richard Seeborg is overseeing coordinated discovery and pretrial proceedings.

As part of the process, the court is expected to implement a โ€œbellwetherโ€ trial program, in which a small group of representative cases will be selected for early test trials. These proceedings are designed to help both sides evaluate how juries may respond to common evidence and legal arguments that are likely to arise across the broader litigation.

While the results of bellwether trials are not binding, they often play a key role in shaping settlement discussions. However, such trials may still be years away. In the meantime, plaintiffs asked the court in late February to appoint a special master to facilitate early Roblox settlement talks, which may help children and young adults avoid further trauma associated with protracted litigation.

Individuals who believe they or a family member may have been harmed through the platform can contact a Roblox sexual exploitation attorney. A confidential evaluation will determine whether compensation may be available. There are no fees or expenses unless a recovery is obtained in the case.
