Roma Tomato Recall Issued Due to Salmonella Risk

A potential risk of salmonella contamination has resulted in the recall of Roma tomatoes and salad kits distributed to certain Cosco and Safeway stores throughout California, Nevada and Washington.

The FDA posted information about a Taylor Farms Roma tomato and salad kits recall on September 12, after random sample testing confirmed the presence of salmonella.

Although no cases of salmonella food poisoning have been reported, consumption of the recalled tomatoes may pose a potential risk, especially for children, the elderly and those with a compromised immune system.

Salmonella can cause serious infections, with symptoms like fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain typically lasting for a few days in healthy individuals. In more severe cases, salmonella poisoning may spread to the blood stream and cause arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.

The FDA recommends that customers stop eating the recalled products immediately and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Customers may also contact Taylor Farms Pacific directly at 209-835-6300.
