Salmonella Poisoning Risk Leads to Midas Instant Beef Products Recall

|

A recall has been announced for certain instant beef mixes due to the risk of salmonella food poisoning

MiDAS Foods International, based in Oak Park, Michigan, announced the salmonella recall this week for containers of Instant Beef Soup dry mix and Instant Beef Stroganoff sauce mix, according to the Associated Press. The company indicates that these containers may be contaminated with bacteria that causes salmonella poisoning.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that attacks the gastrointestinal tract, causing mild to severe food poisoning. For most healthy adults, symptoms of food poisoning from salmonella typically resolve after a few days or weeks. However, young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems have an increased risk of suffering severe food poisoning after ingesting the bacteria. If not properly treated, some cases of salmonella poisoning can lead to hospitalization, dehydration or death.

The containers were sold to food service establishments in Florida and Tennessee and were not sold directly to the public. MiDAS Foods said that it announced the recall in case consumers inadvertently came across a package. There have been no illnesses connected with the recalled instant beef mixes to date.

Anyone who may have obtained a box or package of Instant Beef Soup Mix or Instant Beef Stroganoff Sauce mix affected by the recall is encouraged to return it to the place where it was purchased or obtained. Anyone with questions should call MiDAS at 1-800-328-8632.
