Square Mile Apple Cider Recall Issued Due to Risk of Exploding Bottles

|

About 2,500 cases of Square Mile Hard Cider have been recalled due to production problems, which could lead to refermentation and cause the bottles to burst.

The FDA announced the Square Mile Hard Cider recall on July 19, after the company found that its first production run may be refermenting in the bottle. This could lead to flavor inconsistencies and in some cases could cause bottles to explode. Although this poses a potential risk for consumers, no injuries or incidents have been reported to date.

The recall affects 22 ounce bottles of “Square Mile Original Hard Apple Cider” and “Square Mile Spur & Vine Hopped Apple Cider.” The bottles have either “Hand Picked” or “Hand Pressed” on the side of the logo. They were sold in California, Oregon and Washington and distributed on or before May 15, 2013.
