Target Chefmate Blender Recall Issued After Injury Reports

About 304,000 Chefmate blenders sold by Target have been recalled after a number of consumers suffered serious hand and finger injuries when the pitcher unexpectedly came apart from the blade assembly.

The Target Chefmate blender recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on September 15, after Target and the CPSC received at least 11 reports of the blade assembly separating from the pitcher. In seven of those cases, consumers reported serious lacerations to the fingers and hands.

The CPSC warns that the pitcher can come off of the blender during operation, while the rotating blades are spinning, which can result in injury.

The recall affects all Chefmate 6-Speed Blenders with a model number of BL-10. The blender has a six-inch tall, white electrical base equipped with five, white speed selector buttons, a gray “Pulse/Off” button and with a Chefmate label on the front. It has a clear plastic pitcher with a handle and both U.S. and metric volume measurement markings. The pitcher has a white plastic lid with a clear plastic stopper and the blender has a pair of angled, stainless steel blades.

The Chefmate blenders were sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide for about $14 from September 2007 through February 2011. They were manufactured in China by Select Brands, of Lenaxa, Kansas.

The CPSC recommends that any consumers who possess one of the recalled blenders stop using them immediately and return the blender to any Target store to receive a full refund.
