Toyota Tundra Fire Risk Results in Recall of 168K Pickup Trucks

Toyota Recall

Toyota Motors has issued a recall for nearly 170,000 Tundra pickup trucks sold over the past few years, which contain a faulty fuel tube that may increase the risk of vehicle fires.

The Toyota Tundra recall was announced by the automaker on August 10, indicating the plastic fuel tube of certain newer model year pickup trucks have the potential to move and rub against the brake line. Toyota warns the friction against the brake line may cause a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire event.

While Toyota did not release an explanation of why the plastic fuel tubes were defective, the manufacturer indicated they are currently in the process of manufacturing improved tubes.

The recall impacts approximately 168,000 Toyota Tundra trucks and includes the following models:

  • 2022 Toyota Tundra
  • 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid
  • 2023 Toyota Tundra
  • 2023 Toyota Tundra Hybrid

The automaker expects to notify owners of the issue beginning in early October, with instructions on how to schedule an appointment with a licensed Toyota dealer to receive free repair. Owners will receive complimentary installation of protective materials and a clamp on the fuel tube as a temporary remedy until the improved replacement parts become available.

To verify whether your vehicle may be affected by the recall, consumers may visit Toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls, and enter their license plate or vehicle identification number (VIN).

Owners with additional questions may contact the Toyota Brand Engagement Center by phone at 1-800-331-4331.
