Tylenol Recall: Arthritis Pain Caplets with Red EZ-Open Cap December 29, 2009 AboutLawsuits Add Your Comments A recall has been issued for all Tylenol Arthritis Pain Caplets in the 100-count bottles with a red EZ-Open cap, as they may contain an unusual chemical contamination that has caused a number of illnesses. The FDA announced the Tylenol recall on December 18; expanding a previous November recall that was originally limited to only 5 lots of the Tylenol Arthritis Pain Caplets. The bottles are believed to be contaminated with a chemical that has caused victims to suffer nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea. The chemical, known as 2,4,6-tribromoanisole, has been detected in trace amounts in the recalled medication. It is believed to have been caused by the breakdown of a chemical used to treat wooden pallets. Tylenol Autism Lawsuit Does your child have Autism from Tylenol Exposure? Learn More SEE IF YOU QUALIFY FOR COMPENSATION Consumers have reported that contaminated bottles have a moldy or mildew-like odor. The FDA recall notes that illnesses reported to Tylenol manufacturer McNeil Consumer Healthcare have been temporary and non-serious, but warns that the heath effects of 2,4,6-tribromoanisole have not been thoroughly studied. The recall affects all Tylenol Arthritis Pain Caplet 100 count bottles with the red EZ-OPEN cap. All currently available lots are affected by this recall. The products all have a UPC number of 0045-0838-21. Only the 100 count bottles with a distinctive red EZ-OPEN cap are affected by this recall. Tylenol has stopped production of the 100-count bottles temporarily, and will reintroduce the product once production has been moved into a new facility in January. The FDA and McNeil recommend that any consumers who have products affected by the Tylenol recall contact McNeil for instructions on how to receive a full refund or replacement at www.tylenol.com. Anyone who has suffered an adverse reaction after taking the recalled pills should contact the FDA’s MedWatch program at www.fda.gov/medwatch. I kept my pills has anyone had them tested for the levels. Charles March 4, 2011 On 3-01-2011 I Purchase d TylenoL Arthritis Caplets there is a recall on the # on the bottle 0045-0838-216 & it makes me very dizzy. this bottle I bought was to replace the one I used up. I happend to look up things for dizzy nes & came up with this. The old bottle has the same recall # Brenda May 26, 2010 I have had the same GI symptoms + dizziness for almost a year. (09-10) I think that the bacteria problem has been out far longer than when it was announced. I saw something about the recall for Tylenol products, but thought that it wouldn’t be in MY Tylenol Arthritis pills. I’ve been to all kinds of docs, tests, MRI of my brain…you name it. I owe alot of money for my tests, doc visits, specialists. I finally thought to check my current bottle for the lot # and found it to be a bad bottle. I am SO P O’d!! And I have taken more recalled products this past year, too. Anyone know of class action suits on this? I want in on it. I’m broke and still in pain!! Edyth April 28, 2010 I posted on Jan. 3rd about the Tylenol Arthritis caplets causing me diarrhea for 3 months, I still have it and I quit taking the tylenol as soon as I heard. I fianally had a colonoscopy done and they found microscopic bacteria in my colon! I think there is more to the story than they are telling us. sandra January 26, 2010 I took motrin thats on the recall list as per its lot number,I knew something was wrong with me and I couldnt figure out what it was,I bought them two weeks ago and take them as needed through out the day,the first night I noticed I thought I was getting a virus, but then had gotten a severe headache and felt so dizzy i thought I was going to pass out, this has been going on since and today is the first day I didnt take them thanks to a friend of mine who knows I need them and take them for my pain, she found the recall and it all made sense now why I have been so ill,how can we put our health at risk trusting these drug companies, when I passed out I could have hit my head and died??What is going to be done about this and what are the long term effects from this chemical? Robert January 18, 2010 I take Tylenol Arthritis and with the last recall, I had not been feeling good, only to end up violently ill with nauseau, diareaha, stomach pains, sever flu like symptoms. After hearing about the recall and calling Tylenol. I then called poison control. I was ill over 3 1/2 weeks. The Tylenol people advised me to immediately dispose of the product which I did, not thinking I should keep the product for proof of my cause of illness. I almost ended up in the ER. Thank goodness for Poison Control who helped me get through the illness. This is FDA not paying enough attention to the products, we as consummers use on a regular basis. Who are they going to blame? christine January 18, 2010 Did anyone get hives from this? thanks Recall for Tylenol, Motrin and Other Drugs Issued Due to Moldy Smell – AboutLawsuits.com January 18, 2010 […] & Johnson has expanded a Tylenol recall issued last month, to include Motrin, Rolaids, Benadryl and a number of children’s products […] Francis January 15, 2010 I agree with all the other persons who have suffered from the gastric effects of this Red Cap Tylenol. Acute cramps, nausea, headache, and dizziness were my symptoms. We were unable to cope with this, which has been ongoing for months, because we never expected the meds we take to make us feel well are actually making us sick. In my experience, they are covering up the real contamination, with the story about shipping palets. There seals and packaging are supposed to eliminate contamination. I think the whole thing is in thier pill-making operation. This company should be hit with a class-action suit for everyone they have deluded and harmed. The FDA is dragging its feet on this, and needs a re-orginazation with some power. we need a good lawyer, NOW… Edyth January 3, 2010 I have been taking Tylenol Arthritis for about 3 months for bursitis in my shoulder. I have had diarria for most all of this time and have had many tests run on my stools but they could not not find bacteria. I have been taking Amodium AD at least twice a week to help control it, and pepto bismal in between. Everything I eat or drink just goes straight thru me, I have not been able to go out to eat unless I take a routine of Amodium AD first. This has disrupted my live severely if you can imagine. I cannot believe that they didn’t come out full force with this problem from the very beginning! I quit taking Tylenol Arthritis emmediately when I heard about it on the 6:PM news 12/30/2009, I called the company at 6:15 PM 12/30/2009 and they tell me to throw it away and they will send me a coupon!! What about all the other medication I have had to take because of it and why would I want to chance taking this stuff again! Now the diarria is so bad that I cannot get away from the house because I won’t make it to a bathroom in time, I barely make it at home. I am really worried about the long term effect of this chemical on my system. Now it is tax time and I am a Tax Preparer this could really be a very embarrassing problem during this time. Tamra December 30, 2009 Last night I took 2 Tylenol Arthritis in the blue cap package and within 10 minutes (as I was on the phone with my mother) I started feeling very dizzy, my vision blacked out, and I couldnt hear what she was saying. I remember saying, I need to get off the phone, im going to pass out or throw up, and I ran to the washroom where I was violently ill. I have been trying to get a hold of someone from Tylenol from the contact numbers online but their phone message says they are experiencing higher than normal call volume, and the phone cuts out. Do you have any suggestions how I can bring this to someones attention? I realize the recall is for the EZ Open Red Cap, but I was so sick from these pills (That smell funny) I dont want someone else to take them thinking the color of the cap will keep them safe.
