USDA Issues Frozen, Stuffed Chicken Salmonella Food Poisoning Warning
A public health alert was issued on Friday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) following reports of about 32 cases of salmonella food poisoning in at least 12 states suffered by individuals who consumed undercooked chicken. All of the consumers mistakenly thought raw frozen chicken entrees that were breaded or pre-browned were pre-cooked and microwavable. Continued

The first salmonella lawsuit has been filed as a result of the recent food poisoning outbreak which has sickened over 1,300 people throughout the United States. According to the FDA, Serrano and Jalapeno peppers grown in the U.S. have been ruled out as a cause of the current salmonella outbreak which has been caused by the Salmonella Saintpaul strain of the bacteria. Tomato Salmonella Food Poisoning Warning Lifted by FDA
Six weeks after the FDA warned consumers not to eat certain types of raw red tomatoes due to a salmonella outbreak, health officials indicated Thursday that the tomatoes in fields and on store shelves are now safe to eat. However, the elderly, young children and those with a weakened immune system are still being advised to avoid raw jalapeno and Serrano peppers, as they may be contaminated with Salmonella Saintpaul, the strain of bacteria which was originally linked to tomatoes. Salmonella Outbreak Update: Jalapenos, Basil and Tomatoes
As of July 10, U.S. health officials have confirmed at least 1,065 cases of food poisoning linked to a nationwide salmonella outbreak involving the Salmonella Saintpaul strain of the bacteria. The first case was reported on April 10, 2008, and health officials initially thought it was linked to the consumption of raw red tomatoes in two states. However, reports have now been received in at least 42 different states, and other potential causes, such as jalapenos and basil, have been identified as possible sources of the contamination. Raw Red Tomato Food Poisoning Warning due to Salmonella Outbreak
On Tuesday, the FDA warned people in New Mexico and Texas not to eat certain types of raw red tomatoes, including red plum, red Roma and round red tomatoes, as they appear to be linked to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened dozens of people in those states. Health officials are still investigating whether additional recent reports of salmonella food poisoning in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas and Utah were also caused by eating contaminated tomatoes.
