The family of Rachel Mohr, 78, filed the nursing home negligence lawsuit against Regent Care Center of League City last month in the 122nd District Court in Galveston, Texas. According to the complaint, Mohr fell out of bed at the nursing home in March, suffering head trauma and bleeding. An employee found her on the floor next to her bed after Mohr began yelling for help. However, the lawsuit claims that the Regent Care Center employee simply placed the woman back in bed. The lawsuit accuses the facility of failing to provide Mohr with proper care both before and after her fall from bed. Mohr was allegedly a known risk for nursing home falls, the family claims, but the facility failed to have an appropriate fall prevention plan in place and failed to notify its workers that she was at risk of falling. The lawsuit claims that Mohr’s doctor had ordered her bed placed in a low position, floor mats put around her bed and the installation of a bed alarm, but the nursing home made none of those accommodations. The family also claims that repeated requests to see Mohr’s medical charts have been declined. As part of the lawsuit, the family is seeking a restraining order to prevent the medical charts’ destruction.
