BebeLove Baby Walker Recall Issued Due to Fall, Entrapment Risk

|

Roughly 3,600 baby walkers have been recalled after government safety officials determined that they fail to meet federal safety standards and pose a risk of infants suffering a potentially serious injury if they become entrapped or fall from the walker.

A BebeLove Baby walkers recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on February 6, due to design issues that could allow the child to fall through the leg opening and become entrapped at the neck. In addition, the walkers are not properly designed to stop at the edge of a step.

Although no injuries have been reported to date, the CPSC indicates that use of the walkers may cause serious injury or death for young children.

BebeLove walkers may allow a child to slide out of the seat and fall down through the leg openings. If this occurs, an infant may become entrapped at the neck, posing a strangulation hazard. The walkers are also designed to be able to fit through doorways, but do not possess a stopper that would prevent the walker from falling down steps.

The recalled infant walkers were sold under the BebeLove brand name, including model 358 and model 368, which are designed for children six months or older. The walkers contain a plastic covered foam padded seat with a plastic base and toy tray and have white stoppers at the bottom of the walker’s base. Model number 358 walkers have green, pink, or orange musical trays with a white toy bar and solid color seats. Model 368 walkers have green, pink, or white musical trays with a yellow toy bar and patterns printed on the seats. Both models have the word “BEBELOVE” printed on a label located on the seat back.

The affected walkers were manufactured in Taiwan and China under Bebe Love USA of Pico Rivera, California where they were sold at small retail stores in Arizona, California, and Utah and online at Amzon.com and Overstock.com from November 2011 through July 2013 for about $25.

Customers should stop using the recalled walkers immediately and contact BebeLove at 888-464-1218 or online at www.bebelove.com and navigate to the “Recall Contact” link for instructions on how to receive a free repair kit.
